This is obviously something with optics. Trump is coming off looking like a pedo protector, but it has to be deeper than this. His explanations of Hoax without any sort of definitive explanation is making people leave MAGA. He's taken a ton of criticism from once MAGA folks.

Trump has worked with law enforcement since 2009 to take down Epstein that we know of for a fact.
What the Dems did during Biden's reign was to hide, obfuscate and build false case files to cover for the fact that Epstein was taken to a black site and never heard from again.
