Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Rules For the rest of the Site also accessible on the sidebar.

What are the concerns with scanning qr codes? I avoid them. Are they legit or no way to know.
I will admit I love most convinces of today technology but I will absolutely not scan even a legit QR code.
Whenever you scan a QR code, the owner of the code can see your device information (like make, model, etc), your device IP address (with which they can track down the area you live in, your ISP etc) and of course the time and location.
If they have a camera at the location, it would be very easy to track your digital self with your realself.
I almost never scan QR codes. Only time I am forced to do that is in some restaurants where the menu is via QR code.
Just tell them you don’t have your phone, or it is dead, or whatever. They always have either a hard copy or an iPad to loan you.
At the airports' stores, cafes, restaurants, you need to scan QR code and order online. i hate it
Most valid reason is to ensure that they didn’t hide a GMO ingredient on the QR code. Conagra does this a lot (just avoid all Conagra “products”, easy), but others do it too.
It’s a pain for everyone, but if it’s something that’s really wanted an employee can scan it.
GMO on QR codes? Can you elaborate ?
They won’t have “contains a bioengineered ingredient” on the product label, but if you check the QR code when there’s one with “scan here for more food information” and dig deep into the website, you’ll often find on the 5th (or so) tab, 3/4 of the way down the page, “contains a bioengineered ingredient”.
Not only do they completely omit it on the product itself, they hide it from being obvious on the full ingredient webpage.
Check a canned Conagra product with a QR code that doesn’t say it’s bioengineered on the product if you want to see an example.
It’s not a terrible idea to simply assume that if you see a QR code with the label “scan here for more food information” that the product is bioengineered.
I also watch for this: https://greatawakening.win/p/17siNzPuXk/careful-how-you-vote-with-your-m/c/
B corps open the door for privatized “voluntary”, contractually-enforced communism.
Yeah, I pass on those restaurants. I'll up and go.
That qr code for a restaurant menu annoys the he11 out of me. And the plandemic pushed it as a hard policy so we weren't "spreading germs" via a handheld menu. Pfft. Insane. I still don't do the qr code for menus. If they can't give me a physical version, I ask to see the menu on one of their devices. If they're truly digital, they usually have a version of the menu on the same device they use to process your order/bill.
I usually say "I cant load it on my phone" which is actually true in many places on my very old phone, and they come and load it on their phones. Its still annoying to see it on their phone and order from there.
