People genuinely want to see real people acting in the shows they watch..Even cartoon characters are better received with favorite Actor Voices. There is still an insatiable demand for content at Home. Documentaries might suffer more from A.I.
If you watch YouTube you will see a LOT of documentaries are now AI generated. I've seen a few WW2 ones and they're all AI. AI voice, AI pics, and AI video. You can tell it's AI but for how long?
Yesterday, I came across an interesting and well done Doc series on YT. Ancestral Survival. After watching a few episodes, I realized we came from some tough Ancestors. They are watching us from above thinking, if we could survive, you can do it too. Act like your lives depend on it..
Issue I have with it is we have had Hollywood have a woke left slant for years, who is to say the AI gate keepers in Silicon Valley won’t be more of the same but even more powerful.
I think you are right. There's a lot of liberals at the heads of the major corporations driving the AI boom. They are pouring $$$ and resources into AI like nothing I've ever seen before. I think we are going to see a bubble burst of some sort in that industry as it matures and gets saturated with processors and language models. But I can see the incentive to replace high priced actors and actresses as a big driver for now - not to mention the DS trying to cover their tracks.
Just because silicon valley, etc could gate-keep a normie on TV, Facebook and Instagram does not mean they can keep this genie in the bottle in my opinion. Gatekeeping used to cost a boatload of money too and USAID is pushing up the daisies and the pervert money train is drying up fast. The only momentum that woke will have will be imparted by a steel boot. It is a cancer that is despised in entertainment and video games. "Go woke, go broke" So if there is no SweetBaby.inc or Blackrock to fund this intellectual aids it will exit stage left so fast everyone will wonder where it went. The whole over-culture is minutes away from openly turning on anything woke.
People are already deploying AI models locally and will continue to do so as this tech progresses. They will be their's to do with as they wish. All of a sudden, a million stories that have languished will be back on the table. The infinite creativity of the hard-core aficionado fans of all the good intellectual properties will have an outlet for their ideas with negligible cost and no barriers to entry.
I think that Hollywood and Tech can't really be conflated in this way either as the products are just too different. That's the whole point; There was only one Warner Bros Studios but a million PC's with monster GPU's that will churn.
I recently read an article about an AI generated commercial that was really well done, and the cost to produce was in the single digit thousands. No actors to pay, no residuals, no sets required, etc. It's going to change the industry.
Once a studio invents the next hot young star in AI, they can sell him/her for decades. Never ages out, can only be replaced by a cultural shift or hotter idea. Real actors will be relegated to theater stages.
