My aunt was a teacher. Don't want to tell you what her monthly income on SS is now. It's less than mine and I became disabled at 38. To read this really upsets me.
This was going on during the same years that it took five years for my bestie to get on SSDI while bedbound. She had tons of documentation too, it really was just unfair bs.
Now she gets $1000 a month and her husband has to juggle working and being a full time caregiver… and they can’t get most other benefits because she won’t divorce him on paper because of religious beliefs

I have a cousin who was raised with a silver spoon in her mouth. Her dad was a surgeon who made millions a year. They spent every dime they made and then some--were in debt to their eyeballs. He got too old to do surgery anymore, so their yearly income decreased drastically. His wife decided he had dementia and was trying to put him away, got him to sign everything over to her, got him to change his will so everything went to her daughter (he had kids from a previous wife that were disinherited so the brat daughter could have it all). Then she realized the brat daughter was expensive...
The daughter--who never worked a day in her life and was now well over 30--was too lazy to get a job and threw tantrums when she didn't get to buy what she wanted. So the wife goes doctor shopping and finds one she pays off to say her adult piece of shit daughter is "disabled". She managed to get her on welfare--they were going to pay for section 8 housing, give her food stamps, the whole works, because she's "disabled". The kicker? She set up a huge trust fund for her to use for "fun" and medical expenses. It was going to allow this bitch to travel all over the world while she had the taxpayer footing the bill for her living expenses. And she would not have been allowed to work, either.
The good news? When the wife passed away unexpectedly, all that went to hell. Now that lazy POS is having to work. I have since found out that this is normal for the wealthy--they train their asshole children not to work (they're too good for that), set up huge trust funds for them, then get them on welfare for living expenses so they can use the trust fund for "fun". Pissed me off when I found out.

My cousin, who just died 3.5 months ago had to wait almost 2 years and she was blind in one eye (literally) and was on dialysis 3x a week waiting on a kidney transplant.
