What in the world is so threatening about John 3:16? All it talks about is God loving the world so much that he sent his son to earth so we don't perish.
It seems to threaten Mormons, as they say on their official website that they believe that Satan and Jesus are brothers. That would negate the "only begotten son" part of the verse.
Atheists hate all the verses in the Bible, even though the ones dealing with facts are provably correct.
The NIV already deletes verses occasionally, even actual words of Jesus. With it online now, they can change it as often as they wish. And the ignorant have no idea. I read from an old KJV, the objectively best translation into English, so I know nothing has changed. I have a scan of an original from 1611 to compare. Mostly spellings have changed between that one and my main copy from the 1960s.
God's Word tells us we are sinners. They don't want to hear that. God's Word tells us there is Heaven and Hell. They don't want to hear that. God's Word tells us we are condemned because of our sin. They don't want to hear that. God's Word tells us He sent His Son Jesus to be our Saviour. They don't want to hear that. It's the Greatest Story of God's love, but they feel threatened only because they do not want to admit their guilt and trust in God to save their souls. This is where the doctrine of works comes in. They think if you do more good than bad, the good will outweigh the bad and voila you make it to Heaven. Not so my friend, you must believe in Jesus to get to Heaven. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. No one goes to Heaven, but by Him. They don't want to acknowledge that.
Are we surprised? Do they ban stories about the tooth fairy, Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny? Of course not! You only ban what is a real and present threat to you. It's clear then,what is a threat to Satan's kingdom, and it's not Islam. To God be the glory (through) Jesus Christ the Lord.
