What's your view of the identity of the Whore of Babylon?
Revelation 11:8 (KJV) - “And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.”
I agree. On a somewhat related note, I heard what I think is a profound point today that I never realized.
In the Old Testament with the sacrifice for forgiveness of sins it was required that the one who's sins were being forgiven be the one to kill the animal being sacrificed. The Gospel is for everyone and therefore both the Romans (the Gentiles) and the Jews (God's chosen people up to the time of Christ's death on the cross) had to BOTH participate in his death. God is amazing.
Wait - didn't we have this conversation in the past? At any rate I totally disagree with you. The "Great City" in Revelation is clearly Jerusalem. It's the city on 7 hills. While Rome has 7 hills so does Jerusalem. Babylon is symbolic for a false religious system which would consist of the corrupt temple system under the Sadducees.
Compare Rome to Jerusalem and we see it was not great by any stretch of the word, neither in the 1st century, nor any time following it. Rome absolutely eclipses it, and from Daniel we understand the fourth satanic global superpower to be Rome, the legs of iron, signifying Rome's military dominance throughout the known world. (*I am inclined to say the eastern / western division can be seen here but it's really not germaine to this topic.. ) But we see something interesting with the feet: iron mixed with clay. This signifies the combination of church and state, which is precisely what happened, and we have over 1,000 years of that history. It's called the Dark Ages, because freedom of conscience was so restricted by the all-powerful church-state, anyone who dared to think outside that cage was subject to being deemed a heretic or a pagan, and there were numerous ways one was punished after receiving that label.
Jerusalem doesn't check the boxes. Rome does. The Catholic church is the continuation of Rome, and Jerusalem is subject to Rome, just like it was when Christ walked the earth.
You find me as many Jewish secret societies as you can and I bet the Catholic church has a list 10x as long. They're literally infested everywhere like termites

The Roman church-state is Mystery Babylon. Jesus was crucified in Rome's territory. Rome is the great city.
