True, but that cop would have needed to live with taking a human life for the rest of his life. It can be done, and some can compartmentalize, but it creates serious trauma in others. Especially if it is the first time taking a life in defense.

I sorta skipped through this...did they ever show the gun he had? Was it a revolver or auto? Failure to fire would indicate either it was unloaded, it was a piece of crap to begin with, or fabric in his pocket might have caused the hammer to not fall on the primer.
