Cats have rights too. They just need a human to speak up for them, kinda like a minor needs an adult to present their need for mutilation. Minors don't have the ability to speak up for themselves in a court, same as a cat.
Aside from that argument, the people who are promoting this should be expunged from society. Let them go live in a hut in central Africa.
Both situations are abhorrent and should be illegal.

Agree. To declaw, you have to remove the knuckle too. Maybe CA will see the hypocrisy someday.
I once adopted a cat that had his front paw declawed. (He was missing his right front leg, but was still a badass orange tabby. His name became Bad Ass because I once saw him fight a 🦝 and shred its belly with only the use of his rear claws.) He never showed signs of having any "chronic pain) in his one front leg, so I doubt the logic California uses re: cats. Also b cause California is flat out wrong on ost other issues, too.
My neighbor had a crazy cat. That cat shredded EVERYTHING. Couch, curtains, wall, kids, parents... it was insane. They loved the cat, but couldn't live with it scratching everything. They had it declawed. The cat still tried to be an ass, but instead there was fluffy little sweet paws swiping at my legs and at their possessions, including their kids. Best thing that could happen to the cat to preserve its life in their home. The cat never showed signs of pain or anything. He just kept on living his life to the end.
I had a declawed cat over 20 years ago, and can confirm this is basically what happens.
