He wanted Maximus to be banging whores and the queen. Russel said this is stupid because the entire premise is Maximus misses his wife, and is honoring her. By sleeping with other women by mourning his dead wife it removes his power.
Thus, gladiator 2 made it so Maximus was banging the queen and birthed a son together.
Part 2? A prequel? Let me go look.
And yes. The whore part would have been bad.
The story is about a soldier and his longing for the simple life and his family. Men at work or war. We long to be home. Thanks anon.
Gladiator 2 was a sequel with retconning of Maximus to make him the biological father of the new protagonist who was Lucilla’s young son in the original.
A worse aspect of the sequel was the relentless comparison of the Roman Empire to the USA especially regarding slavery. It’s quite goofy in light of what we’ve learned about slavery in the Americas: that most slave ships and slave auctions were owned by jews, that about 25% of jews in the American south owned slaves which was more than ten times the slave-owning rate of white gentiles in the south, that rabbis such as Michelbacher claimed that slavery was ordained by God, and that slavery was ended by Christians, mostly white.

Don’t bother. The “sequel” is garbage. Just like everything else modern Hollywood spits out now
Good. Leave well enough alone.
