The Ukraine war was caused by NATO expansion and the US-organized color revolution in Kiev which put Nazis in power who then started genocide of ethnic Russians in East Ukraine. Russia never had any problem with Ukraine joining the EU.
So, if Europeans wanted peace, all they had to do was say no to NATO expansion, say no to color revolutions, say no to money laundering via Ukraine and say not to NAZIs.
