That's the issue, though. It would really have to be a sliding scale, because what's a prohibitive fine for a mom and pop place hiring one or two illegals a year is absolutely nothing to a billionaire hiring thousands of illegals a year.
And the billionaires have a lot of sway with the laws getting passed. Because, money.
So....π€·ββοΈ.
And we could try pivoting from monetary fines to mandatory time served in jail. But then again the fat cats would still get off, because they would just throw their managers under the bus, saying it was them that hired illegals (while ignoring the fact that the company owners threaten their managers with getting fired if they don't keep payroll numbers down.)
Of course, an EO could solve that issue. Until the next President comes along and revokes it. π€·ββοΈ
I think jail time is a much better deterrent than a fine, but it's going to be a problem because it will disproportionately affect middle managers who are simply following the unofficial directions from their superiors and business owners.
If a business owner makes it clear that the hiring manager needs to keep payroll below X amount, and the only way to actually do that is by hiring illegals who will work for much less than legal Americans, it's punishing the wrong person.
But conversely, if the owner of the company really has no idea that their employees are hiring illegals, then they're being punished unfairly as well.
It's a really fucked up situation.
Personally, I think that if it's a mom and pop place (small business owner, only hires a few illegals) then give them a sliding scale fine where it hurts them enough to discourage them from doing it again, but not so big that it ruins them.
If it's a big business, give the people who actually hire the illegals (middle managers) a sliding scale fine to make it hurt, but not ruin them. Then investigate to see how pervasive the practice is in the company, and how likely it is that the higher ups and owners knew about it.
And if it can be proven the upper management and owners knew about it then give them jailtime that they can't buy their way out of (either with good lawyers who get the case dropped or by buying off politicians to change the law).
All of this assumes that corruption won't interfere with justice. So...yeah. π€·ββοΈ
I have no sympathy for anyone that hires illegals. Mom and Pop all the way up to "managers" to owners of corporations. There should never be a "sliding scale" in any form of justice. If they knew they were illegal, they are just as guilty as any. All that hire illegals are doing it to the destruction of their own country and betraying their neighbors. IMHO
I don't disagree. One of the biggest issues is that middle managers of large corporations who get caught are easily replaced. It's like a revolving door. Throw one in jail, another is hired before the end of the day
Employees deserve a living wage, so they can put groceries on the table. Most small business owners can afford to pay $18 an hour. They just donβt want to.
You get paid according to what skills you bring to the table.
If you bring nothing but your body to the table your skillset doesn't exist, all you are good for is grunt labor.
And I want to see evidence that most small business owners can pay $18 an hour for handing a bag to customers. For some that would be more per hour than the owner working sixty hours a week makes.
Oh Florida is full of those small business owns by illegals too, they hired these illegals with minimum wage. I saw a bus coming from Immokalee full of them few days ago and actually they were in a farm. I heard from a friend mouth that they hired illegals and tell them you just do it for 6 months and you can bring all your family, we fix the papers, I was so mad π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬
Which just means that they are gaslighting and trolling us further. Hey, "Let us increase your taxes and make you pay your employees more (as if they know or care about your profit margins), while simultaneously giving money to fake businesses or allowing bigger businesses to hire illegals."
As always, it's only intent is to injure and suppress honest, hard-working Americans (business owners and employees).
What about making the minimum wage a lot lower, get rid of the Dems/Commie $15 an hour wage. Make it $7.50 or a little less. America needs a "starting" wage that won't make America broke!
I know the Dems/Commies wanted a lot more. I thought they got it, but via your statements I am wrong. What I do know is that some jobs are not covered under the Federal minum wage laws. Back in the 60's I was a movie usher and made sixty cents per hour and the minimum wage was $1.60 and I still made spending money working 3 nights during the week and one weekend a month-sometimes two weekends in a month. Oh well those days are gone. And a lot of places have "tip" jars out for the employees-makes me think they are "begging" for money.
This really isn't breaking news.
This has been going on for a couple decades at least....
Not breaking news. Just a little awakening brought to you by the best VP ever.
Hello, just fine the H-E double L out of any business that hires ILLEGAL ALIENS! It's NOT that hard!
The money the companies save with hiring illegals is more than what the fines are.
They MAKE the laws, make the fines so much they wouldn't do it!

How about adding a year in jail?

It absolutely destroys small business and healthy competition. It's terrible.

Ironic since dems are often advocating for a living wage like the $20/hr but fail to do so for the illegals
Which just means that they are gaslighting and trolling us further. Hey, "Let us increase your taxes and make you pay your employees more (as if they know or care about your profit margins), while simultaneously giving money to fake businesses or allowing bigger businesses to hire illegals."

This has been happening for decades now JD.

The federal minimum wage is a lot lower. It's $7.25/hr.
If you work at a job where you get tips, then the federal minimum wage for that is $2.13/hr.
