Starting Friday, the storm—called Fern by some—intensifies with 1-3 inches of ice in the South like Arkansas, Tennessee and Kentucky, 6-12 inches of snow in the Appalachians and Midwest, plus sleet everywhere. An arctic blast follows Sunday, dropping temps below zero in the Plains and Midwest with wind chills to -30°F, even chilling Florida enough for school closures. Panic buying empties Walmart shelves in places like Kentucky, natural gas prices surge 75%, and officials urge stocking supplies, dripping faucets and avoiding travel to brace for outages and exploding trees from extreme cold.

We may have stolen your weather in the Sierras. It's been just like Los Angeles this year.
6-12 inches of snow, -30f... that's everyday in January and February where I live. I guess it's different for folks used to wearing a hoodie or jacket during winter. We all dig out our thermal underwear, Carhart overalls and Sorrell boots around Christmas. My biggest problems are forgetting to plug in the block warmer, underestimating an extra bad winter having to actually purchase a cord of firewood or trying to get 3 inches through 4 inches of layered clothing to pee outside.
Hoping for snow out West. We've gotten zip so far. Pass it over.
