Starting Friday, the storm—called Fern by some—intensifies with 1-3 inches of ice in the South like Arkansas, Tennessee and Kentucky, 6-12 inches of snow in the Appalachians and Midwest, plus sleet everywhere. An arctic blast follows Sunday, dropping temps below zero in the Plains and Midwest with wind chills to -30°F, even chilling Florida enough for school closures. Panic buying empties Walmart shelves in places like Kentucky, natural gas prices surge 75%, and officials urge stocking supplies, dripping faucets and avoiding travel to brace for outages and exploding trees from extreme cold.
Stay safe and indoors if possible!
Have an ICE day !!!
Kek!
Feels like.... Winter.
And now back to regular programming.
Not down here. I like my regular winter days of 50+ degrees!
Where you at Photo? Its hitting low 70's by me today
Central Mississippi. You got to be in Florida. 😃
One my best friends lives just north of Corinth. It's about a 6.5 hour drive for me.
Lol Louisiana in NOLA region. I'm about 15 min outside the city - in the deep red Jefferson Parish portion of NOLA region lol.
Ahhhhh, crawfish and boudin country! Kek
And beignets, red beans, gumbo, (too much great food to list it all), Mardi Gras, etc lol
We may have stolen your weather in the Sierras. It's been just like Los Angeles this year.
6-12 inches of snow, -30f... that's everyday in January and February where I live. I guess it's different for folks used to wearing a hoodie or jacket during winter. We all dig out our thermal underwear, Carhart overalls and Sorrell boots around Christmas. My biggest problems are forgetting to plug in the block warmer, underestimating an extra bad winter having to actually purchase a cord of firewood or trying to get 3 inches through 4 inches of layered clothing to pee outside.
Hoping for snow out West. We've gotten zip so far. Pass it over.
I saw the forecast map... the use of various shades of red to fear-porn now used for winter storms too.
better run to walmart for toilet paper.
It's all fear porn these days. I used to watch The Weather Channel on occasion. They'd give a forecast then show some cool weather related show and that was it. Now they just tell us we're all gonna die and the world is ending.
Ironically the founder of the Weather Channel has famously called global warming the biggest hoax ever perpetrated
kek I didn't know that but it tracks
Did you notice how they started naming winter storms, just like hurricanes a few years ago?
Just like you said, Fear-Porn.
yeah... normies need talking points instead of leaving it abstract.
They personalized it for those NPC who have no personal attachments to anyone but avatars. makes them feel like art of a society.
In other words, winter.
We expect to be stuck in our rural house for a few days until the county gets around to clearing the roads, maybe running on the generator until the power company gets around to fixing the lines after the county gets around to fixing the roads. This will be the first time this season. Happens at least once just about every winter. Sometimes more often, sometimes less.
I'm all about being prepared, but this lack of perspective gets annoying.
" Happens at least once just about every winter. Sometimes more often, sometimes less."
And you haven't moved yet? Kek
I grew up further North, so for me this is an improvement.
Next stop is central America if all goes well. I hope to never see snow again for the rest of my life.
I have seen snow and it is beautiful---on the TV. I was in Michigan one time in the early 80's and experienced a "white out". I have never been back! I do not like temps below 55 degrees!
global warming my ass
Speaking of inches and ass, I heard Barack got 12 inches last night.
That's Bone talk.
More like freezing your arse!
True but it says global warning
Meanwhile Scott Bessent turns the heat up under Newsome in Davos.
Why is he there other than to fondle Alexander Soros' superfluous third ass cheek?
My next user name
On Bluesky.
LOL I've never played in the social media sandbox - and damn sure wouldn't be starting with that cesspool of hate.
I always read that name with the accent on the first syllable, rhyming with Russky, like a bastardized Russian term for blue :)
Scott went scorched earth on Newscum! Kek
I liked how after lambasting News on as a Sparkle Ken Soros gay lover he said that he "Fits in perfectly at Davos".
That was B E A U Beautiful!!
God will not be mocked.
Why is my cellphone map 'MyRadar' not showing this massive world ending storm? absolutely nothing. It has always been dependable. Did they black it out?
I think the worst starts Sunday through next week!
oh, maybe thats what it is. But, the weather channel, local news etc shows HUGE storm coverage. LOL
The "Weather Channel"!!! Kek I remember how they used to sensationalize storms acting like the winds were about to blow them over and some tourist would be just walking around in the background! Comedy Central!
ohhhh yeah! the guy hanging onto a street sign because of 'hurricane winds' meanwhie, in the background a guy walking his little pooch across the street. LOL FAKE NEWS!
That's the one I remember! Kek
I am all stocked up on food and such here in NE Oklahoma. We are supposed to get 10 inches or more of snow and be below freezing for 100 hours. Fun times.
You gotta get it
THAT is EVERYONE south of the Mason-DIxon Line!!! Kek
Lordy! Yep lol. I live right outside NOLA and the second a Snowflake floats down, people freak. However, to be FAIR to those of us who do NOT live with normal winter weather, we react exactly how those of you who do NOT live in hurricane country react when a hurricane is hitting you.
My proof? Ft Dix NY 1985 hurricane Gloria hit. I know bc i was there. One other chick from Slidell and I were pulled from our basic training group to help secure everything since we had already lived thru many. Those who had not were in a panic. Watched it with my very own two eyes. The screaming and crying when the baby cat 1 hit was ridiculous
LOL!
I hear ya...I think you might have meant Fort Dix, NJ not NY...but I heard what you meant.
I was in Georgia one year - actually passing through to NOLA/Slidell and there was black ice on the road. Oh boy...like crash up derby on I75/I20 - "What should we do? FLOOR IT!!!?? HERE WE GO!!!" 😁
First time in NOLA I was like 20, went to the Quarter and was walking around...garage door opened up..."Yall want a Hurricane?" I was like pfft okay! Well that set me on my ass good...It was probably like a 40oz jungle juice and everclear mix...I think I drove home with one hand over one eye to stop the double vision lol
Had to go to an East Texas Walmart last night and it was PACKED.
I just went to get replacement water jugs and I feel damn lucky I was able to get them. Shelves were emptied, almost completely out of lunch meat “packaged & deli” and produce was freaky low 😂
People go nuts down south when they say snow or ice. 😂😂
Yeah,,, it’s crazy-town..
It’s mainly the ones that don’t hunt or didn’t grow up hunting.
Ice storm comms and cover for big arrests?
we need 2 weeks warning tho...
I hope!
I have never heard of trees exploding due to extreme cold. But if there's that much ice then a lot of trees and large branches might break or fall over.
That is a new one for me too! I have seen many ice storms and when the trees break, you would think they exploded!
We are actually getting some cold weather HERE! Yay lol No snow, no ice but some COLD 😁
The freezing rain is the worst. We had an inch and a half in Feb. ‘21. Took down trees, power lines, ripped limbs from trees. Looked like a tornado hit. The ice killed many trees that didn’t break. I’d rather have sleet of snow any day.
Me too.
'exploding trees ?' Yikes!
I ain't going out until the sun is shining and it is above 50 degrees! Kek
