Yep, we have quite a few in our generation who virtue signal on social media. Don't lift a finger to help their cause of the moment but love to tell others they should.
They were testing the damn things in the open air while pulling the heavy blackout film projector drapes as your parents hid under their desks. Welcome to the World.
Used to ride bikes to the Waterslide and Malibu Grand Prix in Northridge, CA during the summer in the early 80s. Me: 10. My brother: 7. Three miles away from home. Would pay the fee and stay at the Waterslide park all day long. There was an Arby’s next door. Would have a Beef ‘n Cheddar, fries and a coke for like $2.99. Would play Tempest, Paperboy and a host of other video games in the Malibu Grand Prix arcade. Today’s children, unfortunately, don’t know how much freedom Gen X had as kids. We were raised to be self sufficient and independent. I feel lucky today for that independence.
This is definitely me and my friends growing up. We're old Gen Xers but are still close friends and will rush in from hundreds of miles away to help one another without anyone asking. And we don't expect head pats for it.
"But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly".
There's a lot of overlap in the so called generations. We weren't latch key, but we didn't latch the door. We were left on our own. A lot. My mother didn't have a "job", but she grew and preserved every drop of food we ate. She made all our clothes except for the male blue jeans and coveralls. She did all of the finish work in our new house while doing the above. If needed she drove tractors, combines, herded cows and successfully shot her one deer a year to feed us AND helped butcher it and canned and dried it.
One learns a bit of independence when one participates in the activities needed for survival.
“We’re the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War’s a spiritual war… our Great Depression is our lives. We’ve all been raised on television to believe that one day we’d all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won’t. And we’re slowly learning that fact. And we’re very, very pissed off.”
So they made a documentary about my life without my knowledge or approval.
Recognized myself in this video!! This is good.
Spot on - 52 here, yes and yes to all of it. But I will say not all GenX are the same, we have our fair share of stupids.

Good and bad in all groups.
But , "the trend is you friend" or is it "stereotypes are the quick file system" ?
" Recognized myself in this video!!"
...Gen X kids are alright...
...I have a couple around here somewhere...
Being out of sync with your generation makes us the memory of the other three types in all Fourth Turnings. And the cycle repeats.
Until we all discover God's Kingdom.
"Neither shall men say, Lo here, or lo there: for behold, the kingdom of God is within you." -- Luke 17:21 --- 1599 Geneva
"Until we all discover God's Kingdom."
Amen!
Cool, thanks for sharing! I was the nuclear holocaust fearing dork in the 80’s!

Wanna baffle younger generations at the cash register? When the bill is $15.99, give them $21.00 and watch for smoke to pour out of their ears!
