He's in record saying his music wasn't for kids, even though we were all listening to it. I remember trying to get in to his shows as a young teen and being caught and thrown out. His gate security were epically known as being great at spotting fake IDs.
I guess that wasn't or isn't widely known outside of S. FL. I don't know. But I was there. I remember. The recording industry tried to burn his ass because he wouldn't play [their] game. [they] tried to ostracized him because he wasteuly a man of The People. Like his music or not, along with NWA, Uncle Luke and 2Live Crew were some of the first independent recording artists to give [them] the big middle finger, say Fuck off, and got paid well for doing their own thing regardless of what anyone else said.
And he hasn't sold out yet. He's done great things for the City of Miami, Dade, and Broward counties, and I don't know any other celebrity from that area that I can say the same things for.
