So if I think about this with todays climate, he's essentially abducting boys by luring them to the island and they return as "not boys".

So they're sex changing the kids they abduct for trafficking. They arrive one gender and "if" they leave, its another.

No. Ever heard the concept of once you have sex you’re no longer a child. Or ‘you’re a woman now’, or virginity lost = transition into manhood or woman hood.
