LONDON, Feb 24 (Reuters) -- Iran is close to a deal with China to purchase anti?ship cruise missiles, according to six people with knowledge of the negotiations, just as the United States deploys a vast naval force near the Iranian coast ahead of possible strikes on the Islamic Republic.
The deal for the Chinese?made CM?302 missiles is near completion, though no delivery date has been agreed, the people said. The supersonic missiles have a range of about 290 kilometres and are designed to evade shipborne defences by flying low and fast. Their deployment would significantly enhance Iranās strike capabilities and pose a threat to U.S. naval forces in the region, two weapons experts said.
Negotiations with China to buy the missile weapons systems, which began at least two years ago, accelerated sharply after the 12?day war between Israel and Iran in June, according to the six people with knowledge of the talks, including three officials who were briefed by the Iranian government as well as three security officials. As talks entered their final stages last summer, senior Iranian military and government officials travelled to China, including Massoud Oraei, Iranās deputy defence minister, according to two of the security officials. Oraeiās visit has not been previously reported.
āItās a complete gamechanger if Iran has supersonic capability to attack ships in the area,ā said Danny Citrinowicz, a former Israeli intelligence officer and now senior Iran researcher at Israelās Institute for National Security Studies think tank. āThese missiles are very difficult to intercept.ā
Reuters could not determine how many missiles were involved in the potential deal, how much Iran had agreed to pay, or whether China would go through with the agreement now given heightened tensions in the region.
āIran has military and security agreements with its allies, and now is an appropriate time to make use of these agreements,ā an Iranian foreign ministry official told Reuters.
In a comment sent after publication, Chinaās Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it was not aware of the talks about a potential missile sale that Reuters had reported. Chinaās defence ministry did not respond to a request for comment.
The White House did not directly address the negotiations between Iran and China over the missile system when asked by Reuters. U.S. President Donald Trump has been clear that āeither we will make a deal or we will have to do something very tough like last time,ā a White House official said, referring to the current standoff with Iran.
The missiles would be among the most advanced military hardware to be transferred to Iran by China and defy a United Nations weapons embargo that was first imposed in 2006. The sanctions were suspended in 2015 as part of a nuclear deal with the U.S. and allies, and then reimposed last September.
US FORCES GATHERING NEAR IRAN
The potential sale would underscore deepening military ties between China and Iran at a moment of heightened regional tension, complicating U.S. efforts to contain Iranās missile programme and curb its nuclear activities. It would also signal Chinaās growing willingness to assert itself in a region long dominated by U.S. military might.
China, Iran and Russia hold annual joint naval exercises, and last year the U.S. Treasury Department sanctioned several Chinese entities for supplying chemical precursors to Iranās Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps for use in its ballistic missile program. China rejected those allegations, saying it was unaware of the cases cited in the sanctions and that it strictly enforces export controls on dual-use products.
While hosting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian for a military parade in Beijing in September, Chinese President Xi Jinping told the Iranian leader that āChina supports Iran in safeguarding sovereignty, territorial integrity and national dignity.ā
China joined Russia and Iran in a joint letter on October 18 to say they believed the decision to reimpose sanctions was flawed.
China was a major arms supplier to Iran in the 1980s, but large scale weapons transfers dwindled by the late 1990s under international pressure. In recent years, U.S. officials have accused Chinese companies of providing missile-related materials to Iran but have not publicly accused it of supplying complete missile systems.

hint: There is no "discombobulator"...They already had teams on the ground that did the dirty work & made things streamlined for the A team... The story is left as is to make most believe the propaganda... IYKYK
Iran is a Sovereign Nation. They can defend themselves.
israel is a sovereign nation, they can defend themselves too.
It is occupied Palestine.
His point still stands regardless. Israel can defend themselves. But here we are. There to serve them
You mean after they evict the British and French tho... right?

The USA provided bombs to Genocide Gaza. They have little moral foundation to stand on currently. If they assisted to show the World how truly EVIL Israel is, then you could argue, they are on the side of good. We are at WAR with the Cabal.
Right...at war with the cabal...
Not sure how Gaza got slipped in there but okay...
I don't think anyone here is operating under the illusion that the USA is "without sin"... and by USA, I mean the govt - just like when I say, "British" I don't mean the limey cunts I'm related to, I mean mostly the City of London... yanno...those cunts
It is a wavy line we navigate but sometimes we need to keep things in perspectives. Respect TaQo.
o7 cuz
Where did they get the money to do that?
To hit our ships with? If so they clearly have a death wish.
It is so hard to stay plugged in and informed. Whenever I try to get up to date on the current events of the world, itās always so depressing and scary. Everything always pointing towards death, war, violence, despair, etc.
I have a beautiful wife and two absolutely perfect baby girls. I am constantly worried and in fear for the three of them. I do not at all care about what happens to me, but the thought of the world actually falling apart and my three girls (wife included) having to go through that is enough to break me. I donāt even like typing this out.
Itās been such a long and hard road this last 10-15 years. Nothing ever seems to consistently improve. Itās so angering knowing that we are in this situation because a bunch of rich elites have been steering the ship for generations.
I am right there with you. Father of several and just welcomed another baby boy this past Sunday morning. The current state of affairs is depressing. This is no golden age I was expecting from a second Trump admin. We were defeated in Minneapolis but are going to intervene for Israel yet again.
Nothing is progressively getting better, no cures, no real border wall, no mass deportations, no golden age of the US. My patience for the admin is almost non existent anymore.
The only reason im going to go vote in November is for Massie and the rest can stay blank.
This is not America first.
LOL good luck shipping them over there.
Sure they are. Well timed. Who wrote this story? Lindsey Graham?
Tell me something. If Iran has billions of dollars from oil sales, and North Korea has long range nukes but no dollars, why wouldn't Iran just buy a nuke from them? If they wanted one that bad, they could get one.
Maybe we shouldn't be over there at all.
Exactly
All is fair in love and war.
USA to station tactical nukes in Taiwan, sounds fair to me.
Whatever... all missiles these days are supersonic, there are very good defenses against them.
Good idea. Iran should definitely buy supersonic anti-ship missiles from China... just one week before the U.S. helps depose the current Iranian regime and helps them form a new Iranian government friendly to the West. :>)
That way, the new Iranian government can give the U.S. access to those next-gen Chinese missiles. We can see how they are built and learn all of their system flaws. Good plan.
Because regime change has worked out for us soooooooooooo well in the past. Remember the last time we did that in Iran?
Gonna be hard to buy missiles from China when you've been turned into a smoking crator. Because Iran is an ass hair away from being removed from the chess board.
Good to know. Thanks enemy for broadcasting that we have some more boats to sink or planes that will mysteriously crash before getting those shipments
I will bet the farm China doesnt have hypersonic missiles. Cracks me up that people think Russia and China do but the US does not. The US in fact has at least near hypersonic manned flight. Shit the SR-71 was not all that far off in 1964. its mach 3.5 is actually considered low hypersonic and isnt far from the mach 5 that is true hypersonic. And that was 62 freaking years ago.
