Yeah kinda sad. I still enjoy watching some clips but the guy himself has proven to be nothing.
IMO, Fawlty Towers was the funniest TV series written in the English language. But it was Cleese’s character flaws that limited it to only 12 episodes.
Washed up Comedian who spent his Youth being edgy irreverent and insulting. Now is spending his twilight years wondering where the society and world he grew up in. And that he so gleefully mocked went. Many such cases.
If he was 40-50 years younger. He’d likely be a shoe-in for being one of the modern plethora of annoying Podcasters and Livestreamers whose sole personality traits are being dark, edgy, and contrarian but also breakdown and cry after getting even the slightest bit of pushback or disagreement

Saw him perform back in 2019, North of Chicago. He went on a lengthy comedy rant totally bashing DJT, late in the show.
Audience reaction was about 20% laughing and clapping, and the other 80% of us responded with resounding boos, and total disdain for him the rest of the show.
I told my wife, let's get outta here, but she wasn't as awake at that point, and said she wanted to stay. A handful did get up and leave. I'm glad we stayed, because the rest of the show (~20 min) was quite awkward for him. Very little laughter, heckles, and it really tripped him up.
