It is not that a religious leader gets political that's a problem, it's that a (so-called) religious leader is unrighteous in his political stand. I say this based on two Bible principles 1) If it was wrong for a religious leader to get political, the government would not be upon Christ's shoulders as stated in (Isaiah 9:6) and prophesied in Revelation. 2) Those who belong to Christ, God calls (priests) (his ministers) see: Revelation 1:8 and we collectively are called his body (the true church) shall we not get involved in politics also? Scripture says "As Christ is, so are we in this world" No the righteous are exactly the ones that should be political, they are not the problem, the problem is those who pretend to be righteous but are wolves in sheep clothing. Let the true church (true religious leaders) stand up, speak up, act up. But unfortunately to a large degree we haven't,not to the extent that we should have, and Satan' has his people filling the void. Therefore the problem is just the opposite of religious leaders getting involved in politics, it's when they don't that THE UNRIGHTEOUS DO. As it is written, " THE ENEMY SAID LAY DOWN AND WE LAYED DOWN AND OUR BACKS BECAME SMOOTH STONES FOR THEM TO WALK OVER" You're seeing the results of the ungodly controling the political message in the world now.

Luckily I have a great rural Catholic Church I attend with many devout Catholics and a great priest. When I lived in NY state I had it out with our liberal priest there and actually stopped attending for over a year until I moved here to the Bible Belt. I had even considered becoming a Baptist but decided having grown up Catholic I would stay in the church if I found a good church to attend. And I did.
I’m much happier here than I was in NY. Sometimes you just gotta find the right church for you

I was an Episcopal until they went so far off the rails, there was no way I could justify their anti-Christ agenda. I started attending a Methodist church. And then they went the way of the Episcopals. I have considered Baptist for the music.
You would love my little Catholic Church. I sing in the choir and our choir director and her husband (our cantor) are both protestant. They are both very talented We have different music every week. They come to our Mass on Saturday evening and then again on early Sunday morning. After Sunday Mass they leave for another church where and he is a minister. She graduated in music from Liberty University so they are both very devout Christians.
We have a spring concert coming up the weekend after this where she invited her entire musical family to help out. Two of her children play instruments and they both have beautiful voices like their dad. One of them is married to a trained Baritone with another beautiful voice. We have other members in our church who join us for our annual Christmas concert and whenever we have other special concerts.
That sounds wonderful. I stuck with my church through ordination of gays and gay marriage, but when they made their church mission helping teens in transition, it was too much. Treasure what you have.
All I needed to see was this pope say — “This is our God: Jesus, King of Peace, who rejects war, ​whom no one can use to justify war,"
