If it's going towards Somalia, then there's no doubt it was their doing,
They are notorious for piracy
hey, dont rule out Minnesota pirates
Was the tanker insured by Lloyd's of London? Ouch!
Now the story needs a tanker insured under the American plan, hijacked by Somalia and rescued the next day by US Navy interdiction. Without casualties except for the pirates.
From what I can gather it was a UAE tanker headed for Israel, through the Red Sea, of course.
Somalis working for Iran then.
Somalis need oil too. I don't think they have refineries, so prolly the contents will go on the black market. To a rogue refinery. I read about African rogue refineries. They are highly polluting and make, at best, a smoky diesel, and maybe kerosene - mostly the tar is thrown on the ground - but it will keep the villages cooking and the vintage trucks bumbling bananas to marke, and if they are really motivated, they can 'make roads' by throwing the sticky stuff on sand and gravel.
The reason I posted the article is because there has been not much mention of Somali Pirates. Nevertheless, they are a thing. Always have been. But the recent American Piracy has made it a not-very-interesting subject - supposedly. IF they can do it, we can, type thing. But, I don't think they are interested in 'supporting IRan'. More like supporting themselves.
Do they have cars?
As I recall they hijack freighters and ransom them.
Plus IRAN is really mad at UAE for leaving OPEC. Particularly since they have a terminal on the outside of the Straits.

They've leared a new way to get money.
Is there a law that the crew members can't carry automatic weapons?
Even semi automatic FFS's....
