Okay, for real, someone please tell Elon to stop blocking non-account holders from viewing & hearing posts. Every social media site is doing that now, and it's fucking annoying. It's just another obstacle to spreading news!! It's not going to encourage me to sign up or use workarounds like Nitter; I don't have time for all that shit.
Maybe. But, I expect there are reasons for this. I mean, having everything purely open would also open the door for all sorts of bots, rackers, and such to sew all sorts of chaos. I imagine that limiting access for non-accounts is simply a first step in handling billions of attacks etc, that probably occur each day.

Anyone who's running a botnet is probably OK with registering fake accounts. The only people who won't (me included, although I have a desktop only burner to scrape videos with jdownloader2) are those concerned with privacy and actively protesting "forced registration" policies.

Just use nitter. Sometimes you have to refresh once but it works fine.
