I think we currently have legislation on the table to stop corporations from buying private homes. I don't think that included land, but if not it should have.

Then why do we see stories of farmers being asked to sell their land for data centers? If BG already owns the land they'll be built on, that wouldn't be happening.
The people buying the land for data centers aren't Bill Gates. They want a ton of data centers. Even SSDs take up a lot of space for the yottabytes of storage, and the processors take up a lot of space and cooling capacity. Bill Gates isn't the only billionaire in the market for data centers and AI.
I have heard they want 5,000 data centers in the United States, far more than anywhere else.
