He is looking to have Discord "remedy" this by having "default maximum safety settings for new accounts, age verification under the SCOPE Act, repayment of revenues from alleged unlawful conduct, and civil penalties up to $10,000 per violation of the Deceptive Trade Practices Act."
It's fine for them to be sued, but he wants to force age verification, which is a trojan horse for more control of the internet and leads to a digital ID! Total Bullshit! There shouldn't be age verification for social media sites!
Agreed. He has certainly identified the problem, but stuff like this is getting used everywhere as a pretext for more dystopian surveillance and control.
I think the most obvious way to fix this, is find out why the hell parents are allowing young children on these sites to begin with. It's just laziness or negligence. Maybe focusing on tools that are so brain dead easy for parents to use, and some propaganda aimed at shaming parents that don't protect their own children from online dangers would be a good start. But certainly not the age verification police state garbage they are trying to push.
Or perhaps the issue could be resolved in a different way.
Take a look at Gab. Gab is a social media site run by a Christian who is a free speech absolutist. There used a real porn problem on Gab. He found a way to automate porn removal through bots.
The reason this isn't done on other social media sites isn't lack of capability, it's the lack of desire to do so.
I would love to brainstorm all solutions for this problem, because an average Anon simply didn't appreciate the level of grooming that goes on these platforms
That has nothing to do with what I'm talking about. I'm talking about age verification where you are forced to provide either your government ID or let some 3rd party scan your face to use a social media platform (which could even include this website under that law!) It would completely remove anonymity on the internet and its ironic that anyone on here would support something like that even under the guise of "for the kids!" But this is something that Ken Paxton absolutely supports which is ridiculous.
No no i am agreeing with you. Whatever solution they come up with should not include age verification at all.
It's not government's business to protect kids. It's up to the parents to protect their kids and if they fail to stop their kids from accessing Internet, too bad so sad.
But we do agree that the only alternative to age verification is for parents to physically suppress internet access of their kids, or to watch every interaction they have on the social media?

Agreed. The for the children argument to backdoor anti privacy is getting old AF

Exactly, the solution is to monitor what your kids are doing and taking appropriate measures to make sure they aren't seeing something they shouldn't
Yes! If kids want to be groomed online with no legal repercussions for either the groomers or the service providers, they should be able to do so!

Grooming is very different from porn removal.
I would love to brainstorm all solutions for this problem, because an average Anon simply didn't appreciate the level of grooming that goes on these platforms
It is, and it almost certainly can't be automated.
Ultimately it is up to the parents to grooming-proof their kids, to ensure they recognize any sexually inappropriate talk and report it immediately.
So you are saying that if the parents drop the ball the kids are fair game for pedos?
No, I'm saying that no one has more vested interest in the kid's future than the parents.
And what happens to those kids who parents are a**holes?

Sorry, I had a quick trigger on that lol. I do think, however, its great that discord is getting held accountable they are a very shady company!

This is for Digital ID aka Passkeys
