The bottom line is data centers benefit those gathering info on WE THE PEOPLE - businesses, health care companies and the goverment. It does not benefit us but we are expected to foot higher utility bills ro accomodate adding the centers to our infrastructure. I do not trust that somehow the cost will not be paased on to us - as usual.
Should have done more research. There is only one cooling method that consumes the water. Evaporation method. Florida is too humid for that to be very effective.
The best is the closed system. Think of a below ground radiator. Just needs a top off now and then. It does eat up more acreage initially, but a lot of things can go on top after it is done.
One type just uses waste water. It goes in, cools and then goes to be treated. No real water loss.
Then there is also the deep sink. Like the bottom of a lake. Also no loss of water.
So as long as they are not going to build an evaporation system, donβt worry about the water.
Lastly, data centers are supposed to generate their own power. Some might have been built before that went into effect. It might not be collocated.
The Chinese and the democrats are on a propaganda attack. And it is not for the peoplesβ benefit.
Yeah I really don't understand the hate if its based off water consumption. This water isn't disappearing... It's being used to cool a closed loop system through heat exchangers. The water is returned to where it came from, albeit a few degrees warmer.
The water is cleaner than any of the water we put down our drains, which also returns back to where it came from.
Not an engineer, but this makes no sense to me. Can the heated water not be used for power, as with a steam turbine? Can't the steam be cooled through coils buried underground?
That's not good enough. Florida is too ecologically fragile for any of that. So many things regarding water and the environment have been ruined here. I could talk about it for hours.
How are municipalities allowing these AI centers to get 100% of the water if they need it, to begin with? Crappy governance and greed/corruption leads to stupid legislation. Fix it upstream by PUTTING PEOPLE IN JAIL.

It will cost her higher utility bills and that's why the Florida governor signed a law. Good luck to the other 49.
The race with China is on and so we built them right?

I sure hope so. Here is something I am seeing right now.

TRUTH ππππππππππ
ai is very bad
i think it could be demons
but i don't know
it could also be holy
maybe it depends
I don't either. They're doing something with these places they are not telling us.
Yes i think that too
It is scary
What I heard from some of the tv evangelists. I am not sure.
i am not sure too
but i do not trust it
Ai smh

Simple answer is, it's not hot enough.
Someone smart already answered.
Floridaman governing
Howls. I have heard about the Florida Man.
I wish he was my Governor!
Me too. Mine is not bad either.
That's not good enough. Florida is too ecologically fragile for any of that. So many things regarding water and the environment have been ruined here. I could talk about it for hours.
Fragile everywhere

It's a resource problem. If they can have their own resources, they can build them.
That's not what the snippet says, "BANNED AI data centers from using up all the water needed by citizens during a drought"
You mean like don't wait until it's almost like California before banning?
Perspective
Agriculture uses 160x as much water as datacenters daily;
Golf courses use 4x as much daily
I know about golf courses.
