They served their hidden masters, exploiting people in both foreign lands AND their own people via stock market phuckery, derivatives, flooded their land with cheap foreign goods - effectively screwing over local craftsmen, debased their currency, stopped investing in infrastructure, particularly their military - totally hollowed out EVERYTHING - in the 1600s & 1700s. They realized there was no more growth to be had there & started cashing out and off shoring their wealth, and not investing locally.

I'm trying to wrap my head around how Prussia fits in with DEIco. I've only got a very sketchy understanding of this, but essentially - after they stole the British throne and CoL becomes a thing, the DEIco or BEIco kinda becomes this:

Just know that most of the people had no part in what was set up in both Amsterdam and Middelburg.
1780 changed a lot. Especially, because the "anonymous merchants" pressured the full reserve bank to be a little less full reserve i.e. not at all.
Consequence, The VOC burned the money and went bankrupt.
The orange family took over and the rest is shaded and shady. But, ....
Families like Fetener - Van Vlissingen were kept out of the spotlight and were shielded from ever paying their legal part.
Instead, under the Batavian Republic, a law was passed to socialize the debt (losses) and pay for them in 30 years.
The orange family turned it into 300 years. 1813 -> 2113
And that is the reason that country is becoming a real shit hole, as the same mercantile procedure is pursued: maximization of wealth extraction.
