A new lawsuit shows major gas stations are using AI to drive up prices and coordinate price fixing
‘They're using an AI tool called Kalibrate to adjust prices based on confidential data. The lawsuit claims this has increased gas prices by as much as $0.30 a gallon’ in California
This is a proposed class-action lawsuit. Companies operating over 1,700 stations in the state, including:
The systems are using machine learning and algorithms to increase prices due to things like traffic patterns, time of day, competitor moves, weather, events and more
The system is being fed confidential, real-time data including their own costs, sales volumes, inventory, and historical pricing and then finds a way to take all this information and maximize profits
You already know this is going to be used in all kinds of industries to squeeze us for everything we have
The X post you shared was made today (June 26, 2026). The underlying proposed class-action lawsuit was filed on Monday, June 22, 2026, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California (Sacramento division).
What's the problem with this? As long as there is some kind of competitive free market, it will sort itself out. We like capitalism here. If you would prefer the Government set prices, go join Mamdani's re-election campaign.
Ironic that I just heard about this on in car radio news yesterday and happening in Australia with the gas station calibration authority just been given extra powers to up there calibration schedules
They will get a serious ass kicking, when people find out about this.
Spread the word!
I upvoted and reposted it on X and asked for a sticky here.
They do the exact same thing when it comes to rent!

Major outlets reported on it right away: Reuters, The Guardian, and others covered it starting around June 22–24.

They used to use zip codes, etc and set the price on ability to pay and location type things.
Isn't this what some grocery stores are already doing or trying to do with their real time price tags?
Get ready for contract pricing. You buy a card for X gallons at Y price.
Most are Jeet stations

All oligopolies do this . Airlines. Gas stations. Hotels.
