What Is Tetanus? An Essay on a Vaccine in Search of a Disease

Excerpt/Conclusion:-
Explain It To A 6 Year Old
Imagine a kid steps on a nail. The nail goes deep into the foot. The skin closes back over the hole. Inside the foot, where you can’t see, there’s now a little pocket with no air and some pieces of the nail and some dirt. The pocket gets sick. The body has trouble cleaning it because the way out is too small. The pocket gets sicker. The poisons from the sick pocket spread into the rest of the body. Now the kid has a bad sickness called lockjaw.
For a long time, doctors thought the sickness came from a tiny bug that lived in the dirt on the nail. They made a shot to fight the tiny bug. They gave the shot to every kid in case any kid ever stepped on a nail.
Then some other doctors looked very closely at the wounds of soldiers in a big war. They found the tiny bug in lots of wounds where there was no sickness at all. The bug was just there, cleaning up. It wasn’t the cause of the sickness. The sickness came from the closed-over pocket and the dead bits inside it, not from the bug.
If a kid does step on a nail, the right thing to do is open the wound, let it bleed a little, wash it carefully, take out any dead bits, and let the air get in. That’s how you stop the closed pocket from forming. No shot is needed. No shot helps with this. Doctors who try to give the shot afterwards are giving it after the moment when it would help, even if the shot worked, which it doesn’t really.
And the kid who never steps on a nail, and most kids never do, doesn’t need any of it.
Last I heard, your chances of getting tetanus is around 1 in 11 MILLION. Tetanin is prevalent in certain lush grasses (mainly fescue) in early spring, which then has to be eaten by ruminants (ie, cattle), then crapped out, stepped in fresh along with a cut or puncture wound, then the wound has to not bleed enough to flush and oxygenate, AND the farmer not providing magnesium supplement (as I do). Simple...
Hate to rain on the parade, but ex sister in law stepped on a needle…got lockjaw and nearly died. It can get serious quickly.
It's a very very hard way to die, from what ive read.
Tetanus is the only one,I would consider.
Junkie needle?
The man who built the Brooklyn bridge died of Tetanus, its a very hard way to die.
He's 1 in 11 million!! Is this "lucky" or "cursed"...I wonder if he was a betting man?...lol
It was probably more common, in those days. IDK
I know my grandparents freaked out about it,when I stepped on a nail once. 100 years ago it was probably a very real concern.
I'm an OLD Az gal and as a kid in the desert we went barefoot and we would bury a board with nail up under dirt and dare one another to walk over it...point was our feet were so callased from the 115°F earth beneath our feet we could walk on nails...it was a game we played as kids...I didn't tell my mom either!
They push the tetanus shot like crazy. And you can't get just the tetanus shot, it comes bundled either with Diphtheria (TD) or Diphtheria and Pertussis (DTP). So double or triple the exposure to harmful vaccines.
I had a on-the-job injury in my 20's and ER gave me a tetanus shot. I don't know if it was just Tetanus or one of the combinations. I do know I've never been sicker, my arm swelled up and I had a fever that kept me in bed for days. I was too dazed to get help (lived alone at the time). Never again will I allow any vaccination in my body or my children.
You can't get just the tetanus where you are from, so it definately had the others in it. Luckily where I am from you can get just the one. I'm in the USA.
I'm in the US too. Maybe it's a local decision or a hospital-led decision. Or maybe they changed it. back and forth. This was in the late 1990's in the Seattle area.
I made the comment to a liberal one day that I would never take another vaccine of any kind, and his comment was "not even a tetanus shot?" I affirmed not even a tetanus shot. My take is we don't know what was in the original, and the we sure as hell can't trust what the current crop of crazies are putting in them now.
Huh. I stepped on 2 nails as a kid. Didn't tell my mom either time.
Bad boy not telling your mom...my kids are grown but I still make em talk..!!...LOL
I'm a girl. & I was more afraid of getting in trouble. I wasn't supposed to be down 'the pit'.
Oh duh, my bad..LillyBee, lol..I'm sorry I missed your name, lovely BTW ..OK bad girl!.."the pit"? hmmm
Lol. It's okay. & Yeah. It was as fun and dangerous as the name implies.
My 54 year old friend was "recommended" a tetanus shot and complied- they sure scare the shit out of ya to get a jab
I went to an urgent care in April. They kept trying to push the Tetanus shot because the skin was broken. When I refused that they tried to talk me into a vaccine, any vaccine it seemed. I went home washed the cut out with Hydrogen Peroxide, and did that for several days. No infection, and it healed quickly on its own.
The list of deceptions runs far and wide. All designed to instill fear in the masses...
Its my understanding tetanus bacteria is all over the soil outside. It always has been. A rusty nail has to come in contact with soil mixed with animal poop, so a few things have to happen. Also the gash needs to be deep for tetanus to take hold in the body. Even with all this, a rusty nail mixed with animal poop soil doesn't mean it will infect you. A healthy mmune system plays an important role too.
I sure stepped on a few rusty nails when I was a kid. lol Luckily it never made me sick even though I got tetanus shots I didn't want.
Puncture wounds that don't bleed. That is what I always was told could give you tetanus. once it my life I got a tetanus shot.
Friends just lost a foal that was injured and developed lockjaw. What a tragic terrible affliction. They tried hard to save him with the antidote which is a very high dose so it is hard to get that much of it quickly enough. it was too late for the little guy.
