Most people don't realize just how brutal field CPR actually is, especially without a portable defibrillator. Even a young healthy person can end up with broken ribs and internal injuries after the procedure. A frail 84 year old is going to look and feel like they've been through a terrible car crash. Broken ribs, punctured lungs and internal organ damage is not only possible but likely.
As a former hospital corpsman, I say absolutely right on the money with the assessment.
Not to mention the brain death that was happening between becoming unresponsive & being found unresponsive....
5 minutes and brain damage is certain. But proper CPR with O2 can push that out a long time.
He’s been brain dead for a long time!
Yeah I’m not certain there was enough left to count is as dead a second time.
My sister used to be a paramedic, and she told me that in their training they learned to do CPR on plastic dummies. When she finally got on the job and had to do CPR for the first time on a live person, it was an elderly lady. To my sister's surprise, on the first compression of the lady's chest, she said she could feel what seemed like almost every one of the lady's ribs breaking. It was pretty shocking.
I took first aid/cpr classes from the Red cross every 2-3 years for my job. I switched jobs and took a class from an emergency responder. He said if you’re doing it right, you’re probably going to hear bones crack. I told him that in 20 years of classes, he was the first person to ever mention that. I would have honestly probably have stopped if I heard bones cracking before I took his course. That’s an important point to leave out.
