It has been awhile, but I canโt think of any FAA or military regulation that they broke. They were at least 500 ft away from the people on the beach. It was self organized I expect, but there is no rule against that. Some CYA commander got his panties in a wad. My theory was: if you know all the rules well enough, then you can find the fun loopholes.
For example: in Europe our minimum altitude was national minimums; which generally were painfully high. But there were no national minimums over the water. So it was basically donโt hit the water. And donโt turn into the sun with salt spray all over your windscreen. ๐๐
The problem was likely that they were flying low over people. As you can see people in the water and along the beach where they were flying. It may also not have actually been planned and was something they did of their own accord.
Regulations regarding flying over people and operating in different degrees of airspace and heights have generally been getting tighter. Especially now as Drones are becoming increasingly common. Itโd be rather embarrassing if we lost an Apache over a beach full of Civilians because they hit a Drone some knucklehead was flying over the beach. Or someone decided to sue because Apaches made an unscheduled flight through Airspace someone already got prior permission to fly their Drone in and hit or damaged the damn thing.
Anyway you slice it though seems more like the kind of thing that should have resulted in more like a finger wag, a stern donโt do it again, and a week of extra duty or something rather than a suspension. As ultimately no one got hurt and there was no damage to the aircraft. So it was probably an uptight and butthurt commander that ultimately decided on the suspension.
So maybe they were a tad too low for some desk jockey bureaucrat with more โmedalsโ than minutes in combat, but my God, these boys sure can fly. ๐๐บ๐ธ๐๐บ๐ธ๐๐บ๐ธ
I bet it was a Demoncrats who hates America so he/she decided to give them hard time. Of course, rules for you and not for thee. Thatโs what they always do.

The rule for that number of people is 500 ft horizontal or vertical separation. They had at least 500 feet horizontal separation.

Some of the TDS comments are so full of hate itโs actually concerning.

I don't see what's so terrible about flying helicopters over a beach.
"Mustang this is ghost rider 203 requesting a flyby."
"Negative ghost rider, the pattern is full."
A favorite scene! ๐จ
