This has always been a possibility with connected devices. Now, with memory prices jacking up the cost of phones and other tech, LEASING is an attractive way for companies to move product that people can't easily afford to outright BUY.
But the leash will grow tighter when you do, apparently.

The memory issues were deliberately engineered from Day 1. The Chip Companies had the data years ago that demand was steadily climbing as more and more people were getting online and tech use was becoming more prevalent. They knew better than most what would happen when AI Hit mainstream. Money that should have gone to expanding production and investing back into the company. Never was allocated.
Whether it was because they were doing at the behest of someone or because they knew they could make bank on jacking prices. Is a different question
