Also msfs 2004 is still a good sim

Yeah I love that I can download a million planes. I have a museum full of aircraft. I have time on so many types it's crazy.

If you can make a washing machine fly, I'll land it. Kek.

I don't do much with video prod, but I have used kdenlive with some success.

Wine allows you to use windows software, but I would consider using native Linux software. It is usually better, and free. Ardour for instance. As far as VST's go with Ardour, it has some awesome stuff available. I use the CALF plugin set mainly. It may be better than the pay stuff. Worth looking at. Don't throw good money/time after bad, as they say.

You can download Ardour and CALF to try them with Windows.

You are an advanced user, so there is a lot involved. Don't rush.

Fair enough fren. It just goes to show, AI is often wrong. I have seen it flag stuff as AI that wasn't. It seems to be a common complaint lately. Uni students have been fucked over. Maybe AI has become sentient and is taking credit for the efforts of others. jk, jk.

Well done with the ban reversal.

We are not the same.

True, but u/ClingClan/ did.

My point was that we can't rely on AI. It's a useful tool, but Anons are better than AI.

Hope you're having a great day fren.

What distro have you chosen?

Ubuntu has a phone-ish type look/vibe. More common, easier.

Mint is more "windowsy".

I like Mint.

Welcome to team Linux! I'd recommend starting with a dual boot setup. BACKUP YOUR SHIT FIRST!

Reach out anytime. Good luck fren!

I use MS FS2004. Not great graphics but the aircraft handle great.

systemD

Fair point, but nothing is totally secure. It's the way of the world. It's still light years ahead of windows.

Lacking in discipline

There is a learning curve. The worst is getting your data moved and learning new software.

It's like learning music theory after getting good at guitar, like I did. A wise man once said...

"If you take the time to learn theory and regret it, you'll be the first."

To comprehend what you are doing, instead of blind trusting those who tell you to click a button. In essence: The Linux path is the anti-dote to stupefication and slow brain gangrene / death.

Yes.

Virtual machines are slow, especially on older hardware. Pro audio on virtual boxes is a nightmare. If you need windows I'd go with a dual boot setup, even then, Windows is gett9ng worse by the hour.

I'd bite the bullet and switch to linux software wherever possible, it's better anyway. And free. Free as in freedom, and as in no bills.

There is a learning curve because it is so powerful. It is beautiful once you get the hang of it. The plugins are unreal.

I like that Linux treats you like an adult. It doesn't treat you like a child and just do updates when it wants, it asks. If you tell it to fuck off, it fucks off.

The better MS Office alternative is called Libre Office. Open Office is older, but still okay. I misspoke. Thanks to u/Podger/ for correcting my error!

Libre Office

That's what I meant. KEK. I'll check out Krita, thanks!

Are you familiar with Ardour?

Did a quick dig on UE5 for you fren....

mUnreal Engine 5 (UE5) supports development on Linux, allowing users to create games using either pre-compiled builds or by building the engine from source. To get started, you'll need a compatible Linux distribution and the recommended software setup, including an IDE like Visual Studio Code or Rider.

Yeah, that doesn't let Microsoft off the hook for injecting whatever the hell they injected into my laptop as soon as I connected it.

Terrifyingly, they were trying to help.

Listen brother, audio is my thing. Pro level. Ubuntu has a special distro for audio called Ubuntu Studio. It has a special kernel dedicated to getting the most out of your hardware and creating a super stable multi-track recording environment.

You'll have to learn a new software package, but it is very intuitive. Very similar to what you are used to. There will be a learning curve, but there is lots of help available online. It is worth it, I promise! Look into "Ardour". I LOVE it. FAR more powerful than any shit on Windows. All the plugins are FREE (like everything else on Linux) )and AMAZING! I use "Audacity" for little audio jobs, it's simpler.

To give you an example of the difference look into "Open Office" "Libre Office". It is the Linux version of MS Office. Go download it now (there are free windows versions) and see the difference. It looks almost exactly the same, just more powerful. For example if you want to make a PDF instead of saving as a DOC file and fucking around converting it you just click "File, Export to PDF, DONE!" You can even use DOC files if you want. Open Office uses ODT files by default.

If you love audio do yourself a favor and PLEASE LOOK INTO ARDOUR!

I do photoshop stuff too, the software is called "GIMP". I could never go back to Adobe bull shit. Check it out, free windows versions online. Great videos everywhere.

As far as UE5 goes, not in my wheelhouse sorry fren.

Truth is simpler, so I'm told. ;-)

Lots of the core stuff can't be fixed. It's old code written in old languages that no one can even read anymore. There are dependencies on top of dependencies. They just keep stacking more shit and put out fires as they come up. Bloated beyond measure. It's pretty sad that I can run Linux on a 15+ year old PC and it's faster than the newest shit you can buy with Windows. With a new solid state HDD my laptop loads in seconds. People are shocked. From off to login window in 15 seconds. 10 year old laptop, 4GB RAM, new SSD HDD.

Linux distros are open source and very current. They are also always being streamlined, as opposed to bloated. They run on passion. Try putting Linux on an old laptop or PC that you thought was dead and get ready to have your mind blown.

I have one PC left running Windows XP, SP3, for my flight sim. It is totally airgapped beacuse if it wasn't, as you said....

I recently connected an older laptop to the internet, briefly. It lagged like a fucking bitch, and it wasn't laggy before connecting. It is now unstable as can be, even disconnected.

If you want a stable, secure, and efficient OS (and other software) that the people coding actually give a fuck about you need Linux. Period. Over 97% of the worlds supercomputers run Linux for a reason.

Folks at GAW need to be on Linux. If anyone needs any help, I'll do my best.

I VOLUNTEER AS TRIBUTE!!
