Taiwanese society has become “accustomed” to the threat from China due to decades of threats. But that does not mean we are unprepared. Few (no?) other nations have the same coastal missile density. We are a porcupine. We have freedom and we won’t give it up. Our strong social cohesion, strong government, strong military, all stand in solidarity with every other free nation who wishes to see the fire of liberty burning in east Asia preserved.
We are not afraid. China will suffer grievously if they touch our home.
That being said, realistically, China most likely would invade an offshore island like Jinmen, which was used for a sort of cruel proxy decades ago. Jinmen is so close to China you can see cars driving on the road there from the beaches. Yet they leave it in relative peace for a long time. Either that or the South China Sea Dongsha or Taiping island. Actually I’m pretty sure that will be their target. I can 99% guarantee they won’t DARE touch the main island of Taiwan. They just don’t have the ability to take us cleanly, the consequences are too grave, and it would be a ruined province for them to deal with. It doesn’t make common sense. These people are stupid yes but I at least respect them enough to be not THAT stupid :)
Here’s another one- today around noon another Evergreen giant cargo ship of the same class as Ever Given got stuck in Taipei Port for two hours. A crane thing hit the chimney and damaged it, and it wasn’t able to sail for two hours. But apparently it did manage to sail after that. During that time it made other boats stuck unable to access the port too. Btw this one’s name is Ever Gentle 「長雅輪」 Just for fun, (I don’t think it’s a notable really) but check wiktionary for that last character. Number 9. So first I should mention that this is a China/HK affiliated page. There is simplified Chinese. It is a part of the Evergreen shipping company. They are just trying to funnel more money into their massive operation.
The eagle ad is actually pretty much what their English translation says. Everyone can be a financial professional. It’s really a commercial ad trying to attract wealthy investors who want to risk. Nothing special I think.
