Think about it, in the 40s we were still using piston driven engines to fly aeroplanes around right up until the very end of the second world war. By the mid 60s, we had gone to the moon (Yes yes, supposedly) and created the X1 rocket jet, U2 spyplane that flew at above 90,000 feet, and the SR-71. For fuck's sake, they made an SR-71-like DRONE in the 60s called the D-21, and the composites and materials used on it are still classified to this very day. The rate of technological innovation SEVERELY slowed down right around the same time the CIA and military industrial complex were growing exponentially more powerful.
