That’s good to know but I’ve been hearing this for at least 30 years. The numbers on the internet all pretty much agree with each other as well. I know conservation has been a big thing in Brazil for over 50 years and I’m not arguing that.

I’m wondering why everything I read says ~15% of Brazilian forests have been cut down in the past 30 years. You seem intelligent and have first hand experience, I’m just trying to learn.

The Brazilians burn forests for the sole purpose of farming the land. A quick search showed they had 9.6% less forests in 2010 than they did in 1990. They haven’t stopped lighting them either. Apples and oranges.

I have a hard time understanding why people give this any credence. First off, there have been ruminants on Earth since the beginning of recorded history. Secondly, cattle are one of the best ways to actually put carbon back in the soil. Yes, they can actually sequester carbon. They can do this while making nutritious food from otherwise mainly useless land and maintaining the habitat for wildlife.

If they want to attack someone in agriculture, they should go after the old farts plowing five times a year to grow ethanol and the people in Brazil burning forrests and degrading the soil. Those activities actually release CO2.

It’s not that easy. They seed clouds to make it rain. The conditions have to be right. It doesn’t always work either.

You can only alter the weather to an extent and it is very expensive. It’s not practical and might not be possible to make it rain there.

It’s different. Trump was actually elected. The patriotic thing to do, regardless of political affiliation, would be to support an elected president and denounce an appointed one.
