Yeah, me too. But hopefully as a society AND as individuals we are smart enough and compassionate enough to not be so ignorant as to forget that .."There but for the grace of God go I". That was the point of my post.

I remember when there were a ton of very callous anons saying they get what they deserve. I said it's wrong to be that black and white and that these people deserve compassion. I'm glad to see those anons don't feel welcome here any more, or figured out what's really going on.

So glad you made it.

Oor, because it's not a contest or a virtue to see a movie, don't feel like you have to or you are somehow failing morally. You are aware and already trying to help powerless people have a voice. You don't have to hurt yourself to prove anything to anyone.

I'm glad you (I'm assuming) broke the cycle. It's so damaging that most perps are also victims. Usually in their childhood. Glad you made it out intact and haven't let it define you as powerless. I believe you, anyone in your position, should share your power with those who have less, or none.

That sentiment is not shared by everyone here I found out, when that sentence about sharing power was down voted. Curious, don't you think? Anyway, keep being good. This world needs you and those like you.

I don't think the critique is about the subject but rather the actual movie mechanics.

So a teacher I know, that has to read and grade papers and stories for English AP has discussed this with me before. She explained that if she graded every paper on moral or emotional grounds, she'd be giving out A's to most everyone. But they still wouldn't be punctuating properly, and they'd be using run on sentences and would be getting screwed because the opportunity to learn was undermined by kids that use manipulate to get the grade. So she makes it clear that just because your grandma was a real hard luck story with very emotional parts, I'm not giving you an A for just using my emotions.

During awards season, you'll sometimes notice the Academy will make winners out of any movie that highlights slavery, or underprivileged people overcoming or any number of subjects that seemingly HAVE to be acknowledged as GREAT regardless of how well it was executed. This angers anons and many normal people alike. And it's easy to see why and how it's kind of pathetic.

This is what is going on, but this time we are on the other end of it all. At least that's what I think is going on.

It's a financial move. People will engage, repost, and discuss on GAW and elsewhere because of this choice of headlines. In that way it's a financially sound decision. If only we anons as a whole could understand the way this works, and then not forget it 5 seconds later when an emotionally charged headline engages the part of the brain that works mostly by bypassing the smarter part of our brain to be properly engaged, it would be a level up in being Awakened.

Because all of that outrage energy gets rendered impotent when wasted on a click.

Definitely misunderstanding. Could be my fault. Either way, I'm not referring to you and I did recognize we are in the same page about this. You're one of the good ones in this regard, imho.

Keep being good. You're good at it.

Don't forget that MSM is all connected and work together. They are making a false drama here and appearing to be outrageous. They know if they gas up opposing and outrageous viewpoints, that you will click it, share it, talk about it, click click click, $$$, and you were very helpful in getting them richer. They don't actually have these opinions and aren't actually wed to their "side". They are at work. It's their job. They do it well and it works. They ask themselves in each instance, "What will generate engagement and how can I word it to aggravate hotheads into longer and deeper engagement in our trap.. er uhhh.., our Important News?

I disagree that this will equal any real numbers on its own. People don't need anything special to happen, or to be coerced, into seeing a good movie. Nobody needed the Streisand effect to see Taken or that great movie from the 90s that was about trafficking humans for sex slavery, called Breakdown. It is a good movie and we saw it in a full theater. Then rented it many times cuz it's scary. My point is that Taken and Breakdown weren't the slightest controversial and nobody tried to make anyone that hadn't seen it feel bad or morally deficient.

I just think SOF is a good movie that can stand on its own. And I think more people will see it if they don't feel like it will make relationships that are already strained, worse. There's a very isolated and alienated anon in my extended family that has used every opportunity available over the last 5 years to try and act morally superior to the people she is desperate to be accepted by. She wants validation from what she sees as the "mainstream" family, much the same way that we at GAW are forever waiting for the Mainstream to agree with us. The family will agree that political elites make laws for the but not for... and they will agree that the breakdown of the middle class is an assault on family cohesion, and that social media is an absolute destructive force, and that the sexualization of children is wrong, etc. etc. So much to agree on and talk about and get to work over. Together.

But she isn't really about that. What she's more about is trying to feel superior and is using ever more extreme devices to use as evidence that she is superior. So when it came to the movie that each of us had planned on seeing at one time or another, she saw an opportunity to make it about passing her litmus test of good and evil. She bought 8 tickets and decided when and where we would be seeing it. When someone revealed they had work at that time and had planned on a different day for their wife and and another friend to go with him on his day off, it became "I can see that your job and bank account are more important than children". It became a huge and toxic power play for control of the people she feels are morally less than her. Her without a job, her that has no social group other than online strangers. She ended up not being able to afford those tix, angry that everyone didn't drop everything and go see it on her terms, and further alienated because nobody is as dedicated to misery and being a victim than her. This didn't happen with Taken. Her and I agree on tons of stuff, and she posts here regularly but doesn't know that I do , and that I agree with much of what she's on about. But because she needs it to be about her, instead of doing the work and having the discipline to not make it about her, I can't let her know I'm right there with her, because I'm not trying to control people or divide. There's always gonna be someone that's seen it more times. There's always gonna be those that saw it harder. Or REALLY got it. Or saw it before it was cool. Etc. These people aren't helping the children. Pride can get in the way.

Hey look, I built a wall! Lol. Sorry bout that. I get worked up over these subjects, of course.

As long as the movie and it's subject matter can be seen as separate from q people and all of the negative connotations that go with that, then this movie can help move people to do more. Taken was a very popular movie franchise and nobody felt like they were choosing some side, or making a political statement by watching or not watching it. It got seen. Still does. Wish this movie hadn't gotten politicized.

Unfortunately many anons here do not agree with us. Check out the vote counts about helping the powerless children, instead of the virtue signaling for yourself.

PSA: This movie should not be used as or for virtue signaling, or the opposite. Don't use it as a cudgel. Actually care about the cause, for nothing but the cause. Don't be a facebook freak.

Stay focused on those with less power and offer them yours. Don't be using this for your own ends.

Nope. Men of Spirit aren't comparing. They know that's for people that are empty. Empty people compare like that. These people are actually compassionate and smart. They know there is no ahead. Only being. Right where you're supposed to be.

Movie magic and filming on location combined as tools for getting the right scenes to support the narrative at hand have come a long way of course, and are a really fascinating history to read about in themselves. The skills this profession employs are incredible.

Like, for real? You know the answer to that.

Taken was massive success and it's obvious this will be a prosperous franchise. Smart anons could care less about the movie. We care about the subject. And don't need publicity or status or even recognition. The stars can manage the production and advertising. We can help achieve virality but are more interested in quietly getting back to the work. There will be way less Taken when people make strong community and family that make it very rare a child can or would go missing or be Taken. It's quiet, it requires discipline, and a bunch of other things that make up a non illustrious life. Which should be a goal, anyway. God I love to ramble. Carry on.

Not really though. I mean sure one can find this story many times over. The people on the street have all seen better times. πŸ˜‰ But really it is as ever, a tale of two cities isn't it? It was the best of times it was the wor... You know the thing. Not all is doomy, as I've learned. And I needed to. You know I find that when my will is in something, I'm so much more effective than if I'm somehow forced or coerced into something. I've noticed. Cowed into. Ew. Nothx.
