Agreed. I was hoping someone else would question the quote. It seems insufficiently Putinesque. He’s typically more piquant and multilayered. Like a cayanne baklava. Of course there’s the possibility of a clumsily simplistic translation.

He’s just annoyed by the “security theatre” aspect. He’s still on their side he just expects them to make sense. He doesn’t understand, or more properly won’t comprehend that the public acceptance of all the lies is the essential element of demoralization. He’d be shot by the actual communists immediately after they took over. “We don’t allow our people to have guns, why would we allow them ideas?”
Oh, I’m a phony alright. Isn’t everyone? It’s the human condition. We all have a self image. We all form mental images of our human contacts. These images are then imagined to interact in a weird puppet show and we call it relationship, or society. Our ideas about ourselves and our ideas about others are all just so much fluff. When objective reality intervenes it can be a shock. May the objective reality of the risen Christ’s eternal mercy be a comfort to you, as it is to me.
