A flood thought in the shower... nice
Personally I think this should be stickied so that there are more eyes on it and thus more sharing.
It's a simple, straightforward summary of the J6 setup, and as he says, it's ugly.
As I fell asleep last night I had one more thought about one of the legs of our cultural stool that has been broken: mentoring and role modeling is no longer common.
I have a theory about it. I think the baby boomers were the first generation of "I" . They did not continue the stories and traditions, and they did not watch and learn from their parents. Nor did they as parents, then, be role models and story-tellers for their children. That was the breakdown of cultural propulgation, and henceforth the majority of the population became isolated, selfish, and ugly.
It is why we Gen Xers feel so lonely, like fish out of water. Our parents were either the last of the Greatest Generation or the Lost Generation (who were the same as the Greatest Generation in values and cultural consistency), and we learned from them and continued the values you have been describing. And one thing we did well was watch and learn from our elders, learn to engage and tell stories, and most of all pass these characteristics onto our children.
I realize my statements are generalizations, but there is a lot of truth to them. Here's an easy acid test: How many people under the age of 35 today could sit and watch "The Waltons" and be content with the stories, acting, cinematography, etc. and truly just enjoy the simple exposure to goodness as it is portrayed? Ten bucks says most who could do that are children of Gen Xers. I admit, when our culture has me down, I watch an episode ot two, and I feel grounded and ready to keep up the fight (in addition to prayer as a source of nourishment).
I guess my point is that that show was a good example of the inter-family member mentoring that is missing.
I appreciate you. Thanks for taking the time to share your many thoughts. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Amen! Thanks, Fren.
Thanks for your comments. I like how you highlighted Trump and his patience. It puts things in perspective (as do the bullets). And I, too, am glad to be alive through this, because I embrace the role that God has asked me/us to play.
I appreciate you sharing that. Thank you. I think I know what you're talking about, as I have felt something similar on different occasions unrelated. God touches us. He lets us know. And that is very hopeful.
Thanks for the link, RainForestFrog! I will check it out. And, you and I have a lot in common. I was a latter X'er, so I'm mid-50's. But my memories echo yours. You eloquently described key facets of the culture that was substantive, and good.
I think the erosion started specifically with Madonna's "Material Girl" video : )
Then the internet overwhelmed with a flood of information the masses of people whose information literacy skills had been dumbed down. All we could do was become full of information, and then... entertainment. And most don't even know it.
Anyway, goodness is on the horizon. We can feel it!
Great yardstick!! That was very tangible. And I agree with you about the timeline... it's an event line. I appreciate your comments.
Lol... totally dumb enough with you.
Very well said. Thank you.
Yes... the transformation of human consciousness. I agree. I hope, though, that the timeline is more immediate. I think we're capable of it. We shall see. Thanks for your post.
I am glad your post went through. Thank you. I hope others read it.
I appreciate you sharing your insights, and I understand and identify with the sense of loss you explained.
I am glad we have us on this Board. I think the story telling begins with us. That, I think, has always been one of our downstream mission objectives.
Ok, good to know. Thanks
I am not on X. Was this his first post on X?
Wasn't his first post supposed to be "My fellow Americans... " ?
Yes, tried that... but zooming in makes it illegible. I'll have to try to track this guy down and see if his stuff is somewhere online.
Being warriors for Good is definitely our family culture. Is life hard sometimes? Yes. There are always struggles, and I am not suggesting that there never will be.
But humans created in the image of God are capable of creating a better world, with God's grace, and we should strive for that, not just be along for the ride and try to simply stay on the Good side with our choices. We create beautiful God-inspired things every day, ever moment. Through us God can create His beauty on earth.
Powerful summary of everything. I just wish I could have copies of all that he flashes on the screen.
Good summary. I agree. And I'm happy for you about your Dad. I think all of us know someone who has awakened, and it's gratifying to know you've played a part.
That's a helpful summary. Thanks. I guess what I meant was more about the daily grind of being human. Can I pay my bills? Can I afford my groceries? Will my grandchildren have a peaceful life as I did? That kind of stuff. Thinking of this in terms of God's final victory is a certain perspective (that I realize trumps all) but it doesn't provide a lot of comfort with respect to human condition here and now.
Thanks. I especially like your last line. It's a good barometer.
I think you're right. But I think Q should just tell us. : )
Hawk Tuah?? haha... had to.
Actually, when I was a kid it was "hock tooey".
Great insights! Thank you. Hopeful.
I have enjoyed our exchange. You are a talented writer with a lot of passion. I hope you write a book that brings to life the heyday you've described. Begin the story-telling. Give people a "new" benchmark to strive for.
