In the arcane world of virology, "sterilization" means the degree to which the virus itself can be eradicated from the herd (human population). The doctor here apparently doesn't get out much and failed to understand that among the population, the word means "to be infertile." Let's not get carried away, here, he's just using medical jargon when he should be using his "outside voice."
I agree, my daughter just had her second dose...I tried to dissuade her but she is an adult and made her decision. Watching this video it was apparent to me his use of the word sterilization was not in reference to fertility but to the effectiveness of the vaccine. He was saying he felt the vaccine would only be 60-70% effective in inoculation of the recipients of the vaccine
Was this a freudian slip in speaking of sterilization? I believe he was talking about sterilizing from the virus, but boy oh boy does it sound a bit more about population control......
Professor Sir Professor Sir John Bell, professor of medicine at Oxford University, and a part of the GAVI team - Sir John is a member of SAGE (Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies) and sits on the government’s vaccine task force that has negotiated the purchase of a handful of proposed vaccines to combat coronavirus - developing AstraZeneca's coronavirus vaccine, said in an interview with Jon Snow that "These vaccines are unlikely to completely sterilize a population. They are very likely to have an effect which works in a %, say 60 or 70%." Believe him, someone who has these levels of credentials doesn't misspeak without correcting himself.
You do know what the first definition of sterilize is?
The process of making something free from bacteria or other living microorganisms.
When you sterilize your countertop do you really think you are making it infertile or you are killing living organisms on it? Words can have multiple definitions. The shock.
Thanks, I haven't been patronised by a pompous asshole for a while.
Us common folk would hear his words and take them at face value, he is senior enough to have better chosen his words, he was being interviewed by a national TV "news" channel so he knows precisely who his audience would be.
I think he knows exactly what he is communicating,
Id also ask you to consider if a human would survive what you describe as The "process of making something free from bacteria or other living microorganisms."
was applied to them.

Yeah, I also think he was talking about sterilizing from the virus.
Agreed. I think it was about sterilizing the virus but they don't clarify and that's troubling.
apologies for the youtube link.
