I'm going to guess that its to cover operations, but that is pure speculation. Could be white hat ops (most likely) or black hat ops. It could be just a bad storm. It could be a natural storm from previous weather manipulations: an accidental bad down stream effect.
Texas pede here. 5:00 am and the actual temp is 1 degree. That isn’t the wind chill. No power since yesterday around lunch. Freakin stinks. I will run out of firewood in 2-3 hours plus I have my parents here both in their late 70’s. I sure hope they get us power soon.
This is not a normal winter. Given everything else going on, I would not be at all surprised if this is not a natural storm. It is extremely rare to get this cold in TX. In fact, it may be the coldest recorded temp. ever.
Holy Crap ! -20'C in TEXAS ? Fuck it is colder winter that we in Poland have now !
By the way: how many of you Americans use only electrical heating ?! So few gas stoves or wood stoves ? Costs of electrical heating of all the house shall be horrific ! I understand if it is rented house in some cities, but if not... Those ideas are SO simple !...:
My husband built us one of those. Hooked it up to the duct work . I had to stop using it when I was pregnant. I couldn't carry the wood safely down the stairs.
Ours is hooked through the duct work too. We have a gas furnace but only use it for backup. Luckily my husband used to have a firewood business so he cuts all our wood. It definitely saves us a lot of money in the cold months, which seems to be half the year here in Michigan lol.
I'm in MI too. I had the gas Co. call me on the phone wanting to know why my meter was reading at near zero. It worked great . Now I 'm too crippled up to haul wood. Husband passed away many years ago.
sitting here in central texas right now, pretty much home bound, all roads iced, topped with snow, with more freezing rain forecast for tomorrow. was on here and watched some video about the storm coming last week (thanks frens) went and bought wood, logs, food, etc. its 2 am and 7 degrees, thankfully still have power, but it could go at any time. 4 more days until we get melted, so they say...
Vancouver WA? I live here, the snow amount we got, about 16”, happened in 2017 also but the ice in Oregon was insane. This isn’t playing with the power grid like suggested above, lines are down everywhere and my in-laws have well over 100 trees down. It’s a mess. 1 barn demolished and others damaged, still without power but we made them get prepared this year and bought a generator, stocked up on homegrown chicken and dry foods in sealed buckets. Had cans of diesel, propane and gas to last several days. They also have a wood stove so not panicking one bit. A year ago they would have been. I would love to know if someone seeded this storm after the one 2 weeks ago was a dud. Freezing rain happens often here but not like this.
I'm in DFW, TX and this sitch here is cray-cray. Internet and phone service is out all over the place and around 1.5 million people are without power in these frigid temperatures at my last check.
Even if the electricity doesn't go out from power lines falling from ice-covered trees, power grid windmills freezing up, or a car spinning into a power line pole or something, Oncor started doing ROTATING power outages ON PURPOSE here to conserve energy. It's wild!
TX isn't used to storms like this - we don't keep stockpiles of ice/snow treatment salts or equipment to even distribute them on roads. There was a 130-car wreck on I-35W in Fort Worth last Wed. (2/10/21) due to ice on the roads, killing 6 and injuring around 65 people (CodeMonkey lost a friend in that crash). 2 semi trucks collided with the 2nd one jumping the back of the semi in front of it. Crazy shit!
Really tragic situation. I spun off a highway thru a guardrail and into a ditch driving one ice-covered roads in TX decades ago and vowed to never drive on ice/snow in TX ever again. My rule is STAY HOME in shit like this.
Winter weather events like this simply paralyze our cities in TX. Sure is pretty with all the snow this week though - gotta say! We usually only get nasty ice here, so this nearly half a foot of snow is something to behold here!
It's happened before. It's rare, but it happens. I've seen temperatures in Texas on both extremes, with mass power outages it both directions. Cold weeks, or months just get memory holed because of muh global warming.
-4 F was pretty common in Minnesota where I am from and it can be adjusted to, Layers of clothing work wonders. also a groundswelling of support for reopening te Coal Plants.
I am so sorry for the pain you are going through.Power outages are so bad when the weather is tolerable , but heat and cold make it so bad .Please find a warm place to stay even if it means borrowing from family.
My, My , My aint that a coincedenty huh Give the cuntry to ignorant green new deal assholes.
Renewable energy is nice but it is not the total answer for instance solar power i am looking at putting solar panels on my house but they will cover about 2/3ds of my needs. No sun at night.
Wind power all find and dandry when the wind is blowing,. Answer me this why do they de ice planes? It fucks up the aerodynamics of the wings so they have get rid of the ice.
Technology has advaced enough we ne cheap nuclear power reactors..
There is no reason that we can not produce enogh energy to eliminate outages brownouts or even Blackouts.
Time to burn a democrat or bleeding heart liberal for heat..
The hardest thing to remember during a power outage is: trying to turn the lights on every time you enter a room.
So true lol. We lose power so much we have flashlights and battery powered lights, crank lights within reach everywhere in our house lol
Leave the switch in the on position so you know when the power comes back on.
“When the lights go out...
Juneau here it’s 14, but clear. It’s not usually this cold, but Alaska amirite
It's 21 in Alabama.
Praying for Tejas patriots....
Welp, looks like they were right all along. This is the obvious outcome of Global Warming.
Snow will be a thing of the past by the year 2000!

Who knows?

I’ve been trying to get this message out - solar minimum!
Our solar system is cyclical. The sun controls 100% of the weather.
Very true.
Winter? Wake up. You're not paying attention. Look up average temperature in texas in February. Then look at the current temps.
Averages are the last 20 years. So now it will dip a little bit colder,

Or some gas stove, even camping one ?
Gas furnaces still use electricity to run the fans through the house.
So does our wood furnace.
My husband built us one of those. Hooked it up to the duct work . I had to stop using it when I was pregnant. I couldn't carry the wood safely down the stairs.

I’m sorry to hear about your husband & your health. I’m sure things get hard for you. God bless.
Thanks. I have 3 great kids who help me out when I need it.
I was stationed near San Antonio the winter of 1978-79. On New Years day, the temperature was -5 F. That's a lot colder then it is now (14 F).
I live in an apartment with a boiler. It’s about 90 degrees in here if I don’t have some windows open and a fan going.
