Seems to me a PhD ought to be smart enough to put his own thoughts into words, without needing to search the internet for somebody who can express it for him. They're not educating the brightest among us any more.
Many people with PhDs are programmed to regurgitate. Their sole sliver of individuality is their doctoral thesis ... Once that is submitted, defended, and approved, they are required to become one with their collective. These are the same types that get all offended if you don't call them "Doctor" and constantly remind people of their degree.
If you want to piss of anyone with a PhD that fits the description above, call them mediocre or unimpressive. They'll have a fit.
As far as I'm concerned, anyone can sit in classrooms and write a research paper for 8 years. It's what you do with those credentials that matter.
In the good old days, earning a PhD was a hell of an achievement based on novel work that's respected by people in the field. Many candidates used to work for a few years in the private sector to gain real world experience before heading back to the classroom. That's rare these days ... and it shows.
These cradle to the grave students think work is beneath them. I suspect the idiot that posted that nonsense on Reddit is one of them.
I see that front and center with many of the PhD's in the school systems.
They beat their chest like they are the alpha gorilla, that they know what's best for all the students. Common core was a prime example of this meant to distance the parents from helping with homework and dumb down the kids.
They may be highly educated (indoctrinated) , but it doesn't mean they are intelligent (problem solvers).
Had a few collisions with someone just like this in the community college system. Ph.d in eng lit, decides it wasn't for her, decides to go through one of the early bootcamps over the summer -- now she was an IT expert..... Miss "expert" was having trouble with the lcd projector in one of the adjacent classrooms to the computer lab. I went over to perform my techly duties to help, I fixed the issue on HER computer, then she stops me on the way out and tells me in her "authoritative" voice, do not embarrass me again in front the students. I was told later by one of the students she was trying to use the issue as a teaching moment to which she couldn't fix the problem the way she was trying to describe. Apparently I embarrassed her by actually fixing it in 45 secs. She event went and complained to my supervisor about it. Timeframe win98, NT4.0ish HP/UX 11.x
Wow. That sounds just like what happenes to my wife. She fills in as a basic substitute teacher. Most teachers (union elite) do not know she's a Registered Nurse and has had many psychology / behavioral courses and 20 years real-world nursing experience.
They talk down to her like she's unqualified to assess a student's behavior or emotions. They put her in her place, then go on to use her exact observations and tactics after she is dismissed.
Oh man. You hit the nail on the head with that comment. I worked for a government office once, and sent an email to 'Mrs Crazy Lady'. It's DOCTOR CRAZY LADY, you dirty peasant!!! She reported me to my manager who advised me to correctly address people. I couldn't get out of there fast enough.

Oh you want to be called Doctor, simply because you have a doctorate?
Well i guess i need you to call me Master, since i have a Masters...
Sure thing, Masters Bates.
PhDs require more training than everyone else, but they tell themselves its because they are so smart.
