You should check out the 1976 election map. Ford took California, Illinois, Virginia, New Jersey...
But Carter took Texas, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and the Deep South...

They do... Over time. But a year does not a trend make. If it were an organic switch, we'd see it flicker red and blue here and there before trending in one direction. But for a state that has basically been historically red since the union won with 2 major exceptions - ww2 and LBJ, the latter of whom served as vice to one of the more based presidents in history, it makes little sense how it just became a blue state over night. Not for one or two consecutive terms, with four being the max in over a century, but seven.
Just shows how long they've been cheating.
