I think a microwave works as a 'faraday cage' ( look that up). This is why people joke about tin foil/tin foil hats. You can place your phone in a tin foil covering and it WILL stop messages. OR a cookie tin will work, assuming its made of aluminum and has a tightly closing lid.
Yes, even if not on the same frequency spectrum, depends on the microwave and how is made, but still, it may allow signal to go in (your phone could ring), but it should block reverse emissions
Better thing if you have time and materials, wrap the phone in plastic foil or a bag or something, take the aluminium paper roll or something that does isolate, and wrap it over the plastic, repeat as much as you want, 3-4 layers should be safe, leave the last wrap as plastic so that insulates, and put it in the microwave (or if you have a metal trash can, you can put a plastic bag inside with the content (ex wrapped phones, pc, etc), and close it, should add as an additional layer of insulation ( but be sure the metal never touches things inside and plastic is always the last layer you use)

You can probably get lead weights from a fishing store and hammer it out pretty thin to the point where you can get something workable... Cover up any gaps with aluminum or just more lead if it works out

I'm getting distracted, but some (most?) phones are smart enough these days that they don't continuously scream at full power trying to connect. They'll still use some power trying once in a while, but it's nothing like the old days.

A proper faraday cage needs to be 100% sealed by the same material all the way around, you can’t have five sides made up of metal and then the sixth wall be made of glass like in a residential microwave. This fallacy won’t stop anything.
Maybe it’s dependent on how powerful your cell connection is to the tower. I’ve tried this in multiple microwaves and my ATT cell phone receives the call every time.
just get an old broken one, don't plug it in. Put your cell phones, electronic stuff in it, hard drive backups, etc., acts like a faraday cage. When the EMP hits your phone will still work. Don't know about the cell towers though.....so may be all for naught.
I lined the inside of a cookie tin -and inside of lid- with foam padding, So my phone or i-pad etc can just go in each. I also have aluminum tape in case edges dont overlap. I also keep one in my car in case of EMP.

I tried the foil.
Wrapped the thing and tried to see if I still had signal, and I did.
Aluminum won't suffice, it has to be something thicker.
I haven't tried foil + microwave, but that seems like a disaster waiting to happen.

If you were to have tried it, you would know that your phone call did not go through for some reason, unless your microwave has a leak.

If they want to push something onto our phones I don't think you can stop it. Other than turning it off and never turning it back on.... just a guess.
Presidential is "mandatory" on mine.. can't turn it off. Maybe with developer mode and some software you can turn the feature off??
