A big chunk of that decline has to be caused by the masks!! I have been saying from the very beginning. Depriving young children's developing brains of the feedback of watching human faces is catastrophic. Being able to read and understand the expressions of other humans is foundational to our survival as a species.
the masks also deprive children's brains of oxygen, which lowers IQ. Even in the decade prior to covid, a lot of research papers were published showing that schools in high-oxygen areas (such as a mountain valley with lots of trees) earned higher test scores than schools in low-oxygen areas (like smog-filled cities). Some educators even floated the idea of having kids use oxygen masks in between class to 'super-charge' their brains.
So,...the article (not peer reviewed) suggests that children born in the past 17 months have a 22 point drop in IQ. What an accomplishment by the researchers to get babies from new born to 17 months to take the test at all! My guess is the IQ drop happened to a bit older group...
um, if you think a 3 month to 3 year old has an IQ of 100 I've got some bad news for you.
The national average is 95-100 for the entire USA.
BTW... how do you IQ test people in this age group? IQ tests require a LOT of reading, as well as understanding simple math and a grasp on physics.
I'm sorry, but kids in this age group have ZERO concept of any of these things. Sure, some kids can read SOME by age 3, not enough to read and understand an IQ test.
You can't possibly believe a 3 year old has an IQ on par with the national average? A 3 year old? C'mon guys.
IQ isnt a test of what you know. Its a test of how quickly and correctly you are able to process things. There is no reason to believe a baby has any less or more IQ than its parents... but at that age its an essentially untestable property, at least with the current technology set.
IQ is normalised to the observed population, so when a 3-year-old has IQ of 100, it means it has the average IQ in the population of 3-year-olds. But it's still 78 compared to previous population of 3-year-olds.

the movie Idiocracy will end up being more prophecy than comedy.
Make Orwell fiction again.
No shit. Masks...they learn via facial expressions.
The people who planned this out started salivating and rubbing their hands together when they found this out. The plan is even better than we thought!

Thus contributing immense weight to the "environment" (vs. "genetic") IQ argument.
[sarcasm]
See! Parents can't do that, and are inept to care for their children. So the Government needs to step in.
[/sarcasm]
how does that happen if the average score is always 100?

Yes, I agree this is bullshit. But, not to worry, we will just lower the standards so everyone can pass.
