So I am asking all of you helpful people- what is the best way to get my horse to take the ivermectin paste? What to mix with? Peanut butter, perhaps?

How did you know my horse's name is buttercup? ;)
A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down 😉
In the most delightful way!

Yes, indeed! 🐴🐴🐴
I put it between two Ritz crackers and convinced my horse it was an oreo. He believed me.
Well, here is what I did.
I took about enough for a 100 pound horse and put it on my finger tip. I then put it on "his" tongue. And then gave "him" a drink of juice. "he" swallowed it and all was fine.
I have done this a couple of times because I have been hesitant..... I did notice my horse seemed a bit fatigued for a few hours but then perked up.
Good luck.
Get a small bag of bite size Reeces Peanut Butter Cups, or if you prefer a small box of Chocolate Covered Cherries. Insert the nozzle and squeeze the Ivermectin paste into it. You'll never taste it.
Hay, ever try apple sauce?
Use some empty vitamin gel caps
Great idea!
I tried that and it was too hard to get the ivermectin gel in the caps. Peanut butter worked
Mixing with PB still tasted awful to me (I mean Dobin). I use the gel cap method (size 00). You can squirt the paste directly from the syringe into the caps.
Honey works here on my ranch. Just a little though. A lot of honey for a sickly horse can upset it more.
On toast with butter and jelly
Teach your horse to control this reaction.
Sadly, the old gray mare, she ain't what she used to be many long years ago...🎶
Thank you, everyone! This is most helpful group I belong to, honestly- just the best people! ❤ I just ordered the paste, but want to be prepared to actually use it. Lots of great suggestions. 🐴 Buttercup thanks you, too!
What you do is you jam the syringe into their mouth. Squirt the required dose.hand under lower jaw, hold head up as high as you can. Now slap him 8n the throat. He's got no choice but to swallow it.
😮 I think my horse would prefer the aforementioned peanut butter cups or whiskey.... But it's a strategy, so for that, I thank you.
It works for stubborn horses that just spit it out. I had horses for 30 years.😁
Salt. Sprinkle some on your tongue first.
Yup if you have him take a big sip of water the glob of gel will kinda float around in his mouth and he can swallow it like a pill. It’s not real sticky like it would seem.
You could always try Heartgard. I hear that goes well with peanut butter.
Heartgard has another ingredient, pyrantel. Also a wormer.
They have multiple formulations under the same brand. The first one I looked up had only ivermectin. But others, under the same brands name, have extra stuff. Gotta be careful and look at the small print! https://www.1800petmeds.com/Dog+Heartgard+Chewables-prod368151.html
Some people just rub it on their skin. That would be the easiest way.
It’s not a considerable amount so it’s not like you’re choking down a ton of it. I took mine and chased it with a Diet Pepsi
Make jello? Don't cook the paste, mix it in as the jello is cooling down before it sets. Figure out the ratio and put in enough to fill an ice tray.
