As a Grandmother with lots of toddler grandchildren, if one catches something now he or she gets treated as a pariah cause God forbid any child catch a cold. They get banned from school, banned from extended family visits, doomed to isolation. For frigging colds, and then the drama about “you exposed my precious child to illness” from the parents. WTF happened to normal childhood colds and flu….

The problem with homeschool is that kids are not able to develop a strong immune system which depends on normal exposure to germs. The homeschool environment is great for other reasons, but is usually socially isolating compared to public school. I want my kid out and about all week, not sure one day a week would cut it for socialization. If not, then when they do go out into the public and do stuff like going to a water park, they get overly sick. That is what we are seeing with RSV. We just need to take our schools and country back.
Hi! Grown adult here that was homeschooled K-12, and pretty much everything you said about being “social” is untrue. We had MANY friends, co-op, church, sports and other activities that not only got us out of the house but also taught us social skills with adults as well as other kids. I was able to communicate with adults better than my peers could because I was around such a spectrum of people by being homeschooled. I started odd jobs at 12-13 and got my first real job when I turned 16. I was able to work the fun hours cause I was able to do the day shift since school work could be finished in an hour. The opportunity to start working young has given me the ability to think more responsibly as well.
Is the point of public school to socialize? Cause they spend a majority of their time doing the complete opposite :|
Ok I stand corrected!
Yup; the "lack of socialization" or receiving less socialization has been a specious argument against homeschooling for years. I can say that most of the kids I went to public school with were NOT people that I respected or ever wanted to be friends with......that has not changed over the years. The people I've met from time to time who HAVE been homeschooled are incredibly bright, capable and critical thinkers--most of them.
Great info. More people need to hear from the home schooled who grew up, and what the experience was like.
Do you have any suggestions for resources for homeschooling?

Thanks! Cool pepe
Join a gym that has an active kids center. Go workout for 1-2 hours several times a week while your kid plays in the center.
Yeah there are ways to do it. I am lucky atm in that my kids school is still pretty good. No masks, no CRT. They even played a game the other day separating the boys from the girls where boys made king crowns and girls made princess crowns. And this is public school.
Sports and church and extracurriculars. It can be done.
You can homeschool in a community as this post mentions.
You may not get athletic experiences or opportunities, but socialization and education are the same -- but possibly even better.
Additionally, bullying is basically non-existent during the school environment, which keeps kids focused on their education.
