I think you're right. However, they ARE elected and would therefore take an oath of office. The oath of office means something. Also, they are not a part of the legislative branch, therefore they can STFU about any mandates.

Yes if the school board members get up and walk out during a meeting and the parents sit down and establish a vote to take control they are now the new board members. So yes it does work exactly like that.

School Board members are not paid - at least when I was growing up.

Given school boards are usually elected from the public at large you can’t just replace them at a school board meeting.

Go read how to remove elected school board members in your area. Or if they might even be appointed by the county executive or state governor.
People hate hearing the truth, I suppose. But you can’t just coerce somebody out of the building and name one of you as a legal replacement.
