Oh goodie. Planefagging is my favorite.
Context please?
The GTMO callsigns are transport aircraft that fly prisoners from the Gulf of Mexico to Guantanamo Bay. This one's callsign switched to ANON after it landed, which unfortunately isn't necessarily a big deal. The way that their transponders work, if the blank their callsign before turning of the transponder then it just says ANON.
Could it be something they did to give us a ray of hope? Maybe. Maybe not.
I will say though that the one coming in to land behind it is named GTMO845. 8+4+5 = 17. So if they WERE trying to send a message of some sort, I would expect it to have happened with that one.
I kinda miss planefagging.
Do you know what GRIMM72 is? Itβs been very active in the Middle East recently

That's a sign when we need one
According to MilSpecOps Monkey (plane fag), the "GTMO" prefixed callsigns indicate planes used by the Guantanamo Bay site's leadership traveling back and forth - not for prisoner passenger transport.
MilSpecOps Monkey has also said repeatedly that military aircraft are NOT allowed to transport prisoners to Gitmo per some law that went into effect around 10 years ago (I can't remember the specific name of it though - sorry).
I agree w anons that if it happened on the ground it was just blanking out the callsign. Love me some hopium but it probably doesn't mean much. Here's a screen of the last 100 feet of altitude, it maintained the callsign GTMO844 for the duration of the flight. last 100 ft/

Fun read on GITMO. Why did 44 sign EO to close it in β09 and began facilitating that on his way out the door in β16. I guess we all know why.
FlightAware just got acquired by Collins Aerospace
