East Tennessee here, and it's a good day here too. Going to a high school class reunion tonight up in the mountains, so that will be nice. I wonder how many of them will be wearing masks? I won't be.
Trust me, I've been to these things before. He's probably fat now, maybe on an oxygen tank, and afraid of his shadow. On meds.... diabetic.... weak as a baby... I've known the type, and seen them in their "golden years".... not very golden, except maybe the piss bag that hangs from their wheelchair. Most of my classmates did not age well, bad diets, lazy, never exercised, smoked a lot.... sad, really. They always ask me how I stay so slim and active... I never tell them that it takes more discipline than they have .... gym 5 days a week, don't smoke or drink, eat right, weight lifting and rowing. I just say "Well I work at it and take care of myself" and leave it at that.
As a lifelong Los Angeles resident I envy you guys - sure we have great weather pretty much year round, no complaints there. But when I read of “burning trash and BBQ” there’s just something very Americana sounding to it. I imagine rural country roads and tree lined streets with picket fences. We have a fair amount of those out here too but it’s not the same. It’s like those commercials a long time ago where it shows the coffee shop opening and the sun rising over farm fields as a semi-truck rolls down the highway. A dusty cowboy herding cattle, firemen washing their fire truck, auto workers assembling vehicles. Images that are burned into my brain and that make me proud to be an American.
Sorry for the tangent but your description of your day got me thinking. I wonder if in another life I was once a Tennessean. Or anywhere else besides L.A.. I just wanted to say, enjoy the rest of your day!
My understanding is that because Chief Justice Roberts keeps siding with the 3 libs, it is allowing Thomas to decide who writes the majority opinion, including himself, and this is making him the de facto leader of the court because he is in charge of majority opinions. I do not believe there has been any official change of title from Roberts to Thomas. It has just become become reality on decisions as Roberts has shown he is truly just a liberal on the court.
Personally, I think Obama and his Intelligence Community blackmailed Roberts during the Obamacare case.
Personally, I think Obama and his Intelligence Community blackmailed Roberts during the Obamacare case.
Everything you said is correct, but I disagree on this point.
Bush KNEW that Roberts was a big government Trojan Horse. Karl Rove bragged about how he interviewed Roberts for the CJ position. He asked Roberts who his all-time favorite SCOTUS justice was. He said Robert Jackson.
Robert Jackson is the one who wrote the opinon during FDR that basically says if a farm product COULD be sold interstate, even though it never was, then it falls under federal authority due to interstate commerce clause.
Jackson played a big role in destroying the original intent of the Constitution, and John Roberts is the same type of dirty scum -- as are Karl Rove and Georgie Bush.
BTW, this is why both the leftists and the fake conservatives hate Clarence Thomas. He has stated that bad case precedent should be overturned ASAP. He is absolutely right.
I agree with you. One think that makes me think Roberts flipped though is that he originally wrote an opinion to stop obamacare and then changed his course midstream. I just assumed someone called him and said, "_____ is coming out unless you change course."
I just heard a prophet say that God will stop up the source of the cabal’s power and I think they were thinking of the us. This was yesterday on Elijashstreams
Not officially, of course. John G. Roberts, Jr., retains the title and the middle seat on the Supreme Court bench. But the Chief Justice has just one essential power that differentiates his role from that of the other Justices. The Chief has the right to assign the court's opinions when he is in the majority. When the Chief Justice is in the minority, though, the assignment power goes to the senior Associate Justice who is in the majority.
There was also a snippet discussion that Clarence Thomas is now Chief Justice. No confirmation yet that I can locate. But another anon here on GAW referred to same.
it's an opinion piece. it does not say "he is" it says that he is the "de facto" chief justice based on "being the senior associate ruling in the majority" because JR consistently votes with minority.
this give CT the ability to pen the majority opinion and is the most senior associate.
He is still associate, Roberts is still officially chief. But, because conservatives are in the majority, Thomas gets to write the official opinions that shape policy. It's sort of a sword of power type of 'chief' and not an official position.
Basically, as the senior among the conservatives, which Roberts is not, he gets to choose who writes the opinion in liberal/conservative splits.
Close, but no cigar.
If CJ is in the majority opinion -- he decides who writes the opinion for the court
If CJ is not in the majority opinion -- the senior most member of the court among those in the majority decides who writes the opinion for the court
In either case, the decision-maker can decide to write it himself or assign it to someone else in the majority.
Since Thomas is the senior-most member of the court, he always has that authority anytime Roberts is in the minority, which CNN laments is happening more and more. which they then conclude makes it seem "as if" Thomas is the new CJ.
Funny you should mention Clarence Thomas. I just read same THAT HE IS NOW CHIEF JUSTICE ! Robert’s seems to be MIA.

GME is going to break their power.
from the opinion piece written by Toobin
Toobin forgot to mention that the CJ also oversees the corrupt FISA court.

Cool, ya, not calling you out or anything, just would love to follow along on that. So much weird stuff happening beneath the waves, so to speak

No, he is not.
