He kills her in an elaborate scheme. Puts on disguise, robs deli while Clair his producer his in deli, tries to make it look like common robbery.
Nobody fools Columbo, because Columbo uses logic, sound reasoning, and critical thinking skills. Something that is lacking in the MSM, and not being taught in schools today.
You ever see movie Murder by Death, a Neil Simon flick. This is the funniest, most clever "who done it" comedy I have ever seen, and shows Peter Falk, Peter Sellers at their best.

No way could you have not known by the weight of the gun, that it wasn’t a prop. You are a seasoned actor. You had to have known. Not only did you shoot and kill one, but you shot a 2nd person. Did you not see blood spilling from the first “prop” shot?
He knowingly shot a gun at people. This wasn't as part of an act, part of a script for a movie or rehearsal. He knowingly shot a gun at people. One woman died, one man was seriously wounded. IDGAF if you thought the gun was empty. He knowingly pointed a gun at people and pulled the trigger.
