From Ellsworth American (elleworthamerican.com):
Voters approved the amendment, making Maine the first state in the nation to do so. Statewide, 61 percent of voters were in favor with more than 90 percent of districts reporting Wednesday morning.
The amendment declares that “all individuals have a natural, inherent and unalienable right to grow, raise harvest, produce and consume the food of their own choosing for their nourishment, sustenance, bodily health and well-being.”
Supporters of the amendment, which is an extension of the state’s food sovereignty movement, say it will strengthen food security in the state and protect local farmers from government overreach.
“With over 60 percent of the vote, I am overwhelmed with excitement to share that Maine will be the first in the nation to constitutionally protect food freedom!” state Rep. Billy Bob Faulkingham (R-Winter Harbor) said in a statement. Faulkingham sponsored the amendment.
“Our country and our Legislature seem more divided than ever, but the right to food was the issue that brough Democrats and Republicans together. Maine people love their freedom and their self-sufficiency — and to them it’s not political.”
The fact that this even needs to be addressed with legislation should make us drop a biden in our pants.
That is what I was saying when tbey anounced this.
To think it needed to be made law and now the right to grow your own food will become a political argument rather than an expectation

This was triggered from years of State government overreach, preventing people from making, selling, buying raw milk, for example. Really pissed people off. State government out of control trying to tell people what they can and can't do on their own property, with their own bodies, making their own healthy food decisions. This is a big win, especially with the huge margin. This is something all rural people can agree on. A big step on the road to self-sufficiency, when the gov't can't stop you from growing and raising your own food.
LOL at this needing to be a law passed by our government. Thank you oh great all-powerful, incorruptible government for allowing us to nourish ourselves and grow our own sustenance! You're so wonderful and holy!!!!!
Clown world.
It’s no joke. https://foodfirst.org/dangers-of-the-gates-foundation-displacing-seeds-and-farmers/
Yeah man, it's pure evil.
Indeed.
They need a similar constitutional mandate for the right to informed consent and to choose your own medicines and procedures. A health care civil right.
Government should not be allowed to force a medical procedure or deny any medical procedure you deem worthy of trying.
Amen to this!!
Hmm, I wonder what all this covers...
Thinking a move to Maine with ambitions of growing P. cubensis to test out this amendment! lol
Does this amendment address things we've been unable to do otherwise? Seems a little funny, or maybe it's just Maine...
pot brownies are back on the menu boyz!!!!!
Now do immunization requirements! Possibly the only thing stopping me from packing the family up and moving to rural Maine
Good for Maine to realize what is so profoundly important in what they buy and consume in their own Universe.
This should be international law, and definitely law in all 50 states.
We do not need amendments to exercise our rights. The government is constrained by the Constitution. We are free to do as we please as long as we do not infringe on the rights of others.
Oh you prince's of Maine!
